TULSA, Okla. – Another long day of rain and match delays plagued the Tulsa area once again on Thursday, though, the Gators fought through the adversity to go undefeated on the day, as Oliver Crawford and Sam Riffice reached the round of 16 of singles competition, while Johannes Ingildsen and Brian Berdusco notched a consecutive quarterfinals appearance at the ITA All-American Championships. Additionally, the Gators all tallied wins over ranked opponents on the day, as Crawford and Riffice also grabbed a consolation doubles win over Northwestern's No. 10 ranked duo, while Lukas Greif received a walkover into the consolation singles round of 16.
The Gators started a successful day behind No. 3 Oliver Crawford [2], as he cruised to the round of 16, facing Alabama's No. 42 Edson Ortiz in Thursday's second round matchup. Crawford would bagel Ortiz in the first set (6-0), before dominating with a 6-1 finish in the second to add a ranked win to his fall slate.
Competition heats up now in the main singles draw, as Crawford will go on to meet a top-20 competitor in TCU's No. 18 Alastair Gray in Friday's round of 16.
No. 10 Sam Riffice [6] would ring in the next victory for the Gators, dropping No. 124 Loic Cloes of South Alabama in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to move into Friday's round of 16. Riffice will also engage in a competitive top-20 matchup with Oklahoma State's No. 19 Matej Vocel.
After the delay of prior main draw and consolation singles matches, doubles play eventually commenced with No. 4 Johannes Ingildsen and Brian Berdusco [3] seeing No. 22 Jacob Fearnley and Alastair Gray of TCU.
Ingildsen and Berdusco played steady throughout the match, downing the pair of Horned Frogs in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to move on to their second consecutive quarterfinals appearance at the ITA All-American Championships. A top-10 matchup awaits them for Friday's quarterfinals, as the Gators will face Columbia's No. 6 Jack Lin and Jackie Tang.
No. 49 Sam Riffice and Oliver Crawford took the court after in consolation doubles play, picking up an impressive ranked win over Northwestern's No. 10 Simen Bratholm and Nick Brookes.
Leading through most of the first set, Bratholm and Brookes would rally back to force a tiebreak, though, the Gators were able to maintain the edge to pull away in the first set, 7-6. Fighting to stay alive in the consolation doubles draw, both tandems exchanged games back and forth in the second set before Crawford and Riffice would find their rhythm to knock off Northwestern's duo, 7-6, 7-5.
Crawford and Riffice move into the consolation quarterfinals, slated to face Alabama's No. 29 Patrick Kaukovalta and Edson Ortiz on Friday.
