Pre-Meet Notes
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators are set to host the No. 14 Georgia Bulldogs in their home opening dual meet inside the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on Nov. 1 at 11:00 a.m.
The meet will be made available on ESPN's SEC Network +, while live results can be found on the MeetMobile App.
The Gators (4-1, 0-1 SEC) will look to get back on the right track after suffering their first loss of the season which saw them fall by a final score of 190.5-90.5 to Missouri two weeks ago.
Kieran Smith leads the Gators in the pool as the sophomore has won six individual events and has been a member of five relay wins. Currently, he has the second-fastest 200 free swim in the nation with his 1:35.12 effort against Minnesota on Oct. 11.
The trio of Clark Beach, Eric Friese and Marco Guarente have also started the season on the right note, picking up five individual event wins.
Series History
The two teams have a long history as conference opponents. Since 1998-99, they have meet 19 times, as the pair didn't compete against one another during the 2000-2001 and 2001-02 seasons.
Overall, Florida holds a 12-6-1 advantage over Georgia, including a two dual win streak. Last season, UF went into Athens and walked away with a 166-132 win over the No. 9 Bulldogs. The year prior, Florida hosted the dual and won by a tally of 179-121.
Looking at the Bulldogs
Coming into Gainesville with a 3-0 record, the Bulldogs will look to continue their hot start to their season.
The team kicked off their season with a conference meet with Alabama in which they won by a tally of 157-143. The Bulldogs were led by a pair of 18-point performances by Walker Higgins and Camden Murphy, who garnered conference Swimmer of the Week accolades for his efforts. Ian Grum also took home Freshman of the Week honors after winning one event and finishing in the top-three in two additional events.
For the next two duals, the team competed in non-conference competition against North Carolina and Duke in back-to-back days.
Against UNC, Murphy would sweep the fly events while Andrew Abruzzo hit the ninth-fastest 1,000 free time in program history. The time is also the third fastest in the nation. Abruzzo also added a win in the 200 IM.
The following day against Duke, a trio of Bulldogs would win two races each. Murphy, Jack Dalmolin and Greg Reed led the charge with their pair of wins.
On Oct. 29, freshman Harry Homans would earn his first career SEC Freshman of the Week honor.
Quotables
Head coach Anthony Nesty "After being on the road to begin the season, it will be nice to swim in front of our home fans for the first time this year. With it being a SEC meet, it obviously will be a great challenge for our team. Our program is excited to go out there and compete with a team like Georgia."
Head Diving coach Bryan Gillooly- "On the men's side, Alex will be back and looks to be in great shape. All four divers on the men's side are diving their best so far this season in practice. Now it's time to compete."
Looking Ahead
The Gators will be right back inside the O'Connell Center Natatorium next Friday, Nov. 8. as they welcome No. 17 Florida State for the annual Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown. This will mark the final dual meet for the squad in 2019.
UF will get some time off to train and prepare over the next few weeks before heading to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational on Nov. 22-24. The divers will then compete in the Auburn Diving Invite on Dec. 17-19.
