GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida men's tennis team continues to engage in fall competition, sending five Gators – Andy Andrade, Josh Goodger, Brian Berdusco, Greysen Cacciatore and Blaise Bicknell – to compete at the annual Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
The Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Classic is known as one of the most unique tournaments in college tennis, as players from nationally-ranked programs across the country travel to compete for the title of the only ITA-sanctioned clay court event. All proceeds benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research in helping to find cures for all cancers, including pediatric cancer.
The Gators join a competitive field of teams that include Notre Dame, Michigan, Louisville, Illinois, South Florida, Navy, Florida State and Duke. Seven of the nine teams competing qualified for last season's NCAA Tournament.
The Gators competing this weekend are coming off ITA Southeast Regionals competition held at the Alfred A. Ring Complex last Thursday (Oct. 24) through Monday (Oct. 28).
No. 31 Andy Andrade enters the weekend as the top seed in the singles draw upon a consolation singles semifinals run at the ITA Southeast Regionals. Andrade holds a 12-5 record thus far through the fall slate, as he'll open competition against Louisville's Matthew Fung to begin in the round of 32.
Brian Berdusco also enters the weekend upon a consolation singles run at the ITA Southeast Regionals. Berdusco reached the consolation singles quarterfinals at last year's Dick Vitale Classic, while reaching the doubles semifinals alongside Lukas Greif. He will meet Duke's Garrett Johns in the round of 32, while partnering with Andy Andrade in doubles competition, slated to face the No. 3 seed in Illinois' Alex Bancila and Vuk Budic. Andrade and Berdusco partner for the first time this fall, as they both combine for an even 6-6 record in doubles competition thus far.
No. 68 Josh Goodger has tallied an 8-4 record this fall, including being 3-1 against ranked opponents, as Goodger reached the main singles draw's round of 16 at the ITA Southeast Regionals. Goodger features as the No. 3 seed in the singles draw at the Dick Vitale Classic, scheduled to meet Louisville's Fabien Salle in his round of 32 matchup. Goodger will also team up with Greysen Cacciatore for the first time this fall as the No. 8 seed in this weekend's doubles competition, facing Notre Dame's Conor Somers and Jonathan Small in the round of 16.
Freshman Blaise Bicknell, the draw's No. 4 seed, comes into the Dick Vitale Classic holding a 9-5 record this fall, collecting two singles wins at the ITA Southeast Regionals. He'll face Illinois' Alex Bancila in the round of 32, while Greysen Cacciatore enters the weekend 6-3 this fall, facing Michigan's Harrison Brown in the singles round of 32.
Doubles action will start the first day of competition at 9 a.m., followed by singles at 11:30 a.m.
