Greif Vaults into Main Singles Draw at ITA All-American Championships

Lukas Greif notched two wins to qualify into the event's main draw in Tulsa.

TULSA, Okla. – Lukas Greif closed out qualifying singles action victorious on Tuesday, as the sophomore prevailed through qualifying play with two wins, including one over a ranked opponent, to advance into Wednesday's main draw at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa. Greif joins teammates Oliver Crawford and Sam Riffice in the main singles draw, as Josh Goodger finished 1-1 on the day, falling in the final round of qualifiers, while Johannes Ingildsen fell short in Tuesday's second round.

No. 70 Lukas Greif powered through Tuesday's remaining qualifying competition, as the Newburgh, Ind. native faced Cal's No. 121 Paul Barretto in the second round to start the day. After a steady first set that led to a 6-4 decision in the Gators' favor, Greif completely dominated the second set, dropping Barretto 6-4, 6-1 to add a ranked win to his fall slate and move on to the final round of qualifying play.

Greif, the qualifying draw's No. 12 seed, then met Troy's Pelayo Antuna, who upset UCF's No. 84 Alan Rubio, in the final round of qualifiers to determine who would secure a main draw bid. Greif would then continue to display his dominance, defeating Antuna in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, to yet again claw through another qualifying draw in reaching the event's main draw.

No. 68 Josh Goodger, the draw's No. 10 seed, opened the day on the right foot, knocking off Cleveland State's Nico Mostardi in second round action, 6-3, 6-2, before seeing a challenge in Oklahoma State's Emile Hudd in the final round of qualifiers.

Trading blows early on, Hudd would manage to go on and take the first set over Goodger, 6-3. However, Hudd wouldn't slow down in the second set, as he grinded Goodger throughout the frame to eventually walk away with a 6-1 decision, earning the victory in straight-sets and advancing into Wednesday's main draw.

No. 64 Johannes Ingildsen, the draw's No. 7 seed, found himself a competitive matchup in the second round of qualifiers, facing off with Cal's Bjorn Hoffman, who knocked off No. 122 Chih Chi Huang of Texas in the first round on Monday.

Leading through most of the first set, Ingildsen nearly took the early advantage before Hoffman would catch a second wind, managing to grind out a tiebreak decision in the first set. With the advantage, Hoffman then went on to control the rest of the match, dropping Ingildsen, 7-6, 6-1, to shut down the senior's main draw hopes, though, Ingildsen will feature in the event's main doubles draw alongside Brian Berdusco.
