Riffice Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Gainesville, Fla. – After his 8-0 mark to start the season, freshman Sam Riffice was named SEC Freshman of the Week, as the league announced Wednesday.
In four matches, Riffice has raced out to an impressive collegiate career. The freshman has not dropped a set in any of his singles matches as he has started 4-0. Against UCF, he did not drop a game in his singles sweep of No. 79 Alan Rubio. On Saturday, Riffice was down 0-3 in the first set, but claimed six of the next seven games and the second set to defeat Juan Martin Jalif, who has been ranked as high as 37 in the world in the ITF rankings. This win set up match point for the Gators against No. 22 Florida State.
In doubles, Riffice and partner Oliver Crawford have won four matches in a row as the Gators have taken the doubles point in three of the four matches this season.
Up next, Riffice and the Gators will head to Fort Worth, Texas for a match against No. 16 TCU before traveling to Chicago, Illi. for the ITA Indoor National Championships.
