Florida to Begin Four-Match Road Swing This Weekend

Women's tennis set for road challenges at No. 23 Kentucky and at No. 5 Vanderbilt.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 31 University of Florida women's tennis team begins a four-match road swing this weekend as it travels to No. 23 Kentucky and No. 5 Vanderbilt.
The Gators and Wildcats square off at 5 p.m. ET at the Boone Tennis Center on Friday night and Florida wraps up its weekend with a 2 p.m. tilt with the Commodores at the Currey Tennis Center on Sunday.

UF returns to the road after splitting a pair of matches this past weekend at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex. No. 2 Georgia handed Florida a 4-1 setback on Friday, but the Gators rebounded with a come-from-behind victory over No. 16 Tennessee two days later. Despite conceding the doubles point for the second straight match, Florida claimed a 4-2 win over the Volunteers as freshman Marlee Zein clinched it with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 triumph on court four. For Zein, it was her first match-clinching win as a Gator.
No. 38 McCartney Kessler picked up a pair of wins over the weekend including an impressive defeat of No. 16 Marta Gonzalez of Georgia. The 2018 First Team All-SEC selection has registered three straight singles wins and has notched victories in four of her last doubles matches. No. 16 Ida Jarlskog, who has amassed a team-best nine dual match wins, and No. 67 Victoria Emma represent the Gators in the ITA top 100.
Florida has squared off against seven nationally ranked opponents this season and will battle two more with the Wildcats and Commodores on the docket this weekend. The Gators have won four of those contests and Tennessee at No. 16 was the highest ranked foe Florida has defeated this season.
No. 23 Kentucky enters the weekend with a 14-3 overall record and a 4-2 mark in SEC play. The Wildcats are in a three way tie for third place with Florida and Texas A&M, and recently concluded a four-match road trip with a win at No. 19 LSU and a loss at No. 29 Texas A&M. UK has posted a 9-0 record in home tilts and features one ranked singles player in senior Justina Mikulskytė who holds a No. 35 rank. In doubles, Kentucky boasts one ranked tandem as Mikulskytė and Akvilė Paražinskaitė come in at No. 14.
