GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sam Riffice earned conference honors following more stellar performances against top-40 opponents, as the league announced Wednesday.
The Orlando, Fla. native earned his second SEC Freshman of the Week accolade after going 6-0 in both singles and doubles.
His week was highlighted by an upset of No. 31 Alex Brown of Illinois. Riffice avenged an early season loss to Brown when he dropped a two-set decision at the ITA Indoor Championships.
Riffice improved to 14-3 in dual singles and is an impressive 7-0 in SEC singles play and has won nine straight matches. The freshman has alternated between the No. 2 and No. 3 positon in the Gators' singles lineup. In doubles, Riffice is 13-2 in the spring and has only dropped one conference match.
Up next, Riffice and the Gators will welcome LSU and Texas A&M to the Ring as they continue conference play in Gainesville. Florida and the Tigers will meet on Friday at 5 p.m, while the showdown for the top spot in the SEC between the two unbeaten teams will kick off at Noon on Sunday.
