Gators Lead the Field after Day One of Regionals
Monday, May 6, 2019 | Women's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. – The Florida women's golf team currently leads the NCAA Regional field of 18 after the first round of play.
The Gators got off to a hot start with four players birdying at least one of their first four holes. This put them atop the leaderboard early. After slipping down to T7 after the first nine holes, Florida was able to gain control again to close out the second nine. Juniors Sierra Brooks and Marta Perez both birdied one of their first four holes and two of their final four holes. Brooks is currently in a four-way tie for second while Perez is also inside the top 10, in a tie for sixth.
Sophomore Elin Esborn rounds out the Gators in the top 15 as she sits tied for 13th and one under par. There is just a one-stroke different between Brooks (-3), Perez (-2), and Esborn (-1), and just a three stroke difference between the top six teams, showing how tight the field is.
The second round of stroke play begins first thing Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. (ET). The Gators tee times will begin at 10:20.
