GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Recent Gator graduate Rachelle Smith joins another Florida alumna, Lauren Silver, on the Jamaica team for the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. They are part of Jamaica's 18-player roster that begins group play Sunday.
The tournament comprises eight teams in two groups of four, with the top two progressing into the semifinals. Jamaica is part of Group A. Estadio Universidad San Marcos is the site for women's Pan Am soccer play.
Smith is a 2017 All-Southeastern Conference defender who played the entirety of the 2018 season until suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear at Florida State. As a Gator, she appeared in 75 matches and started the final 30 matches of her Florida career.
Silver was also part of Jamaica's first-ever World Cup roster earlier this summer. As a Gators, Silver played left outside back for Gators, appearing in 82 matches. She made her international debut with Jamaica in 2014 CONCACAF Women's Championship.
