M25 Houston Draws
HOUSTON, Texas – Sophomore
Lukas Greif qualified for the main draw at the Texas Tamale Co. Houston Cup on Tuesday, joining the likes of teammates
Oliver Crawford and
Sam Riffice in representing the Gators at the event.
Andy Andrade was a win away from making the cut into the main draw, but unfortunately fell in a three-set battle to the qualifying draw's top seed.
After rain plagued the Houston area and hindered matches at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on the campus of Rice University, the final qualifying singles matches were moved to an indoor facility to be played at 8 p.m. Despite the change of plans,
Lukas Greif managed to weather the delay and handle business in his final round matchup with Francois Kellerman.
Greif would down Kellerman in a dominant straight-set performance, 6-3, 6-1, to punch his ticket into the main draw.
Andy Andrade matched up against No. 1 seed Alexander Lebedev in his final round qualifying match, as both players fought hard in a back-and-forth three-set match to earn their way into the event's main draw. Andrade secured an early advantage after taking the first set, 6-2, and nearly almost closed the match out, though, Lebedev would claw back in the second set, 7-6 (1), to push a tiebreaker set. Lebedev then managed to pull away for a 10-3 decision to grant his entrance into the main draw.
Qualifying Draw Final Round

No. 1 Alexander Lebedev def.
Andy Andrade, 2-6, 7-6 (1), 10-3
THOUGHTS FROM VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACH SCOTT PERELMAN:
- "Due to all the rain and weather conditions in Houston, the final round of qualifying started at 8 p.m. last night indoors. Andy was up a set and served for the match and was not able to close it out. He is very disappointed and can [and will] learn a lot from this experience. Lukas took care of business in two sets and was solid from the beginning to end. He continues to get better with each match he plays."
- "The main draw starts today and the Gators have three singles players and one doubles team in the tournament. It looks like another full day of rain which means main draw matches will start tonight indoors at 9 p.m. Go Gators!"
UP NEXT:
- Main draw matches will begin tonight due to continued rain in Houston, as Lukas Greif will take the court against Edoardo Graziani. Sam Riffice will face qualifier Alexander Lebedev, while Oliver Crawford is slated to take on Sumit Sarkar in first round action.
