Gators rack up three singles wins at day two of Pink Flamingo Cup in the Bahamas
NASSAU, the Bahamas – Continuing its season-opening tournament in the Bahamas, the No. 24 University of Florida women's tennis team competed against the No. 4 UCLA Bruins in doubles and the No. 23 Miami Hurricanes in singles at the Pink Flamingo Cup hosted by the Baha Mar Resort.
After a day of intermittent rain and weather delays, Florida finished with three victories in singles as Tsveta Dimitrova, Marlee Zein and Sydney Berlin all added wins.
The senior Dimitrova has posted wins in consecutive days to open the competition.
In the preseason showcase, Florida came up short against UCLA in doubles but rebounded with a strong performance in singles against the Hurricanes.
Taking on the No. 2 doubles pairing in the nation, Florida's McCartney Kessler and Victoria Emma fought but fell by a slim margin to Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart, 6-4. Dimitrova and Ida Jarlskog came close but couldn't get by the Bruins' Annette Goulak and Taylor Johnson, who registered a 7-5 win. On court three, UF sophomores Berlin and Zein, dropped a 6-1 decision.
Florida then flipped the script in singles against the Hurricanes, posting three wins across the five courts.
Dimitrova collected a 6-3, 6-4 win over Maya Tahan while Zein won 6-3, 6-3 against Yuna Ito.
To close out the day, Berlin rallied back after dropping her opening set and notched a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (13-11) victory over No. 69 Selma Cadar.
No. 96 Emma built an early lead over Daevenia Achong but couldn't hold on, falling 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 0-1 (5-10). No. 37 Kessler battled the nation third-ranked player in Estela Perez-Somarriba and fell by a final of 4-6, 5-7.

Overall thoughts on the day of competition…
"Our goal was to be better emotionally and in our body language today, and I was very pleased to see a marked improvement from yesterday. For us as a team, we need to get better at playing, not hitting. Competition out here as well as in our during practice daily will, like river water shaping a stone, slowly add the layers we need to reach new heights. We hope to play our best in tomorrow's final matches."
