Redshirt-sophomore receives waiver after transferring in from University of Miami this summer.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida women's basketball guard Yasmeen Chang has been granted a waiver by the NCAA and will be immediately eligible to compete during the 2020-21 season.
Chang will have four years of eligibility remaining (including 2020-21 year) due to the NCAA DI Council's decision to allow winter sport athletes an additional season of competition because of COVID-19's impact on the collegiate sports landscape.
The native Floridian was one of the Sunshine State's highest-rated players in the class of 2019 and was ranked the No. 21 overall player in the nation by ASGR Basketball.
Her first game eiligible will be today's game against Cincinnati.
The two-time Naples Daily News Player of the Year, starred at Gulf Coast High School where she averaged 17.5 points per game as a senior. In her final year with the Sharks, Chang helped guide her squad to a 19-5 record and a regional quarterfinals appearance at the FHSAA 8A State Championship.
Hailing from Naples, Chang spent one season with the Miami Hurricanes, competing for playing time in a veteran-laden backcourt. The 5-foot-9 guard saw time in 18 games, averaging 7.1 minutes per game.
Chang can play both the point guard and two-guard role for the Gators, bringing great athleticism and quickness to the perimeter.
