GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida head women's basketball coach Kelly Rae Finley has announced the signing of Frieda Bühner (Osnabrück, Germany) and Myka Perry (Normal, Okla.) to the Gators 2022 signing class.
Both will enter UF as freshmen during the fall of 2022 for the 2022-23 campaign.
Head Coach Kelly Rae Finley on the 2022 Class…
"We are excited to officially welcome Frieda and Myka to Gator Nation! They are two outstanding student-athletes that bring unique skill sets to the court, complementing our current roster. Off the court, they are driven, kind women of high character. We are looking forward to having them on campus."
A 6-3 forward, Buhner will be joining Gator Nation from Germany where she has earned numerous accolades on the international stage. During a busy 2021 campaign, she was a nomination for the women's national team in February while also a member of the championship U18 3X3 German Cup. She was also the second-best scorer of the U18 FIBA 3X3 World Cup. Bühner was named rookie of the year in the WNBL in 2019 and was honored as the best junior athlete of Osnabrück. Bühner was also named tournament MVP at the 2019 Memorial Juan de Mena Tournament in Spain.
With her high-level of play, Bühner was named one of the top 10 players of the week for the DBBL seven times, earning the EuroBasket Player of the Week award for the DBBL in March 2021. For the 2020-21 season, Bühner was the top scorer, rebounder and boasted the highest efficiency rating in the DBBL.
Head Coach Kelly Rae Finley on Frieda Bühner…
"Frieda has competed on the international stage for many years. She is versatile in her skill set with great touch around the rim and the ability to stretch the floor to the three. She is a competitor with a high basketball IQ and a desire to bring her best, both on and off the court. We are excited for all that Frieda will add to our program."
Perry has earned All-Conference honors during both the 2020 and 2021 campaigns in addition to All-Big City honors (2021), being named to the Oklahoma Super Prep 5 Team (2021), State All-Tournament Team (2021), Joe Lawson All-Tournament Team (2021/2020), Carl Albert All-Tournament Team (2020) and Bartletsville All-Tournament Team (2019). She is no stranger to high-level success, having won a pair of state championships at powerhouse Norman, also boasting 41-consecutive wins as a team and #18 national ranking in 2021.
Head Coach Kelly Rae Finley on Myka Perry…
"A competitor with tremendous talent, Myka will join us from Oklahoma where she has helped Norman High to two state championships. Her length and athleticism, paired with her craftiness and feel for the game, allows her to play multiple positions and impact the game in many ways. Myka is an exceptional leader on and off the court who has the ability to make everyone around her better. We are ecstatic to have her join our roster and are looking forward to all that she will bring."
