Junior captain mounts important comeback after dropping first set
ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida's Sam Riffice advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2021 NCAA Singles Tournament on Monday at the USTA National Campus.
For the second day in a row, Riffice staged a comeback after dropping the first set.
After falling behind 2-6 in set one, the junior stormed back for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over Andres Martin of Georgia Tech.
He will now take on Siphosothando Montsi of Illinois in the Round of 16 on Tuesday at noon ET.
It was a difficult day elsewhere for the 2021 national champions as Andy Andrade and Duarte Vale fell in singles while Will Grant/Johannes Ingildsen and Riffice/Vale lost in doubles, leaving Riffice as the lone Gator left in either competition.
