Thursday, June 24, 2021 | Track and Field
EUGENE, Ore. – Three Gators advanced in their respective events at the U.S. Olympic Trials as the meet resumed Thursday following a two-day break inside Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Freshman Claire Bryant, who was named the SEC Women's Freshman Field Athlete of the Year earlier this month, advanced in the long jump with a 12th-place finish and a mark of 6.29 meters (20 feet, 7.75 inches) [+1.4]. The long jump's final round is scheduled to take place Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
On the track, collegiate record holder Kyra Jefferson finished 11th with a season-best time of 22.57 seconds [+0.7] to advance to the semifinals in 200 meters.
Meanwhile on the men's side, Gator Great TJ Holmes earned an automatic qualification to move on to the next round of the 400-meter hurdles. The hurdler, who ranks fourth on UF's Outdoor All-Time Top 10 list, finished second in heat four with season-best time of 49.90 seconds.
The semifinal rounds for the men's 400-meter hurdles and the women's 200 meters will both take place Friday at 6:18 p.m. ET and 7:25 p.m. ET, respectively.
Reigning world champion Grant Holloway and American long jump champion Marquis Dendy will also compete Friday.
Holloway will run the preliminary round of the men's 110-meter hurdles, while Dendy will compete in the men's long jump.
See below for a complete list of Gators expected to compete in the remainder of this year's U.S. Olympic Trials, along with results from Thursday.
The top three finishers in each event, so long as they have the Olympic qualifying standard, will automatically earn spots on Team USA for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
The games were slated to take place last year but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tokyo Games are scheduled to open on July 23.
