All of Florida’s 2021 newcomers earned the academic accolade
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Eleven Florida lacrosse players were named to the SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll, as the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday. Those 11 bring the total to 38 student-athletes with academic honors in the 2021 season, the most in program history.
All of the newcomers in 2021 earned the academic honor – Paisley Eagan, Ashley Gonzalez, Maggi Hall, Julia Hammerschlag, Liz Harrison, Emily Lortz, Jackie Norsworthy, Bella Palagonia, Emma Panciocco, Danielle Pavinelli and Kelly Schluederberg.
Last week, 27 Gators were named to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, the most in history of the Florida lacrosse program.
Today's announcement brings Florida's total of student-athletes named to a 2020-21 SEC Academic Honor Roll to a program-record 378, which is 70 percent of UF's student-athletes. Florida placed 301 on SEC Academic Honor Rolls (107 on fall list; 62 winter, 132 on spring) and 77 on the First-Year Honor Roll.
On the field, Florida swept both the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles, while going undefeated in league play for the fifth-straight season. The Gators finished the season with an 18-3 record – making the program's sixth NCAA Quarterfinal. The squad collected four IWLCA All-America honors, 10 All-AAC accolades and swept the six major AAC postseason awards.
To be recognized for the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
