Women's tennis earns ITA All-Academic designation and McCartney Kessler collects scholar athlete status.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the 11th-consecutive season the University of Florida women's tennis team earned the ITA All-Academic team award, as the organization released its list of 2021 honorees Monday morning.
In addition, senior McCartney Kessler was named an ITA All-Academic Scholar, collecting the accolade for the fourth-straight year.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2020 and spring 2021).
For the year, the Gators notched a 3.3 GPA as a team which included a 3.4 mark in the spring semester.
The 2020-21 squad marks the 16th UF team coached by Roland Thornqvist to earn ITA All-Academic Team honors. Thornqvist, who recently completed his 20th campaign with the Gators, has now coached 26 athletes to 51 ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.
To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades, the student-athlete must uphold a grade point average of at least 3.50 or above (on a 4.00 scale) as well as earn a varsity letter and been enrolled at their present institution for at least two semesters.
Kessler, a Health Education & Behavior major, and four of her teammates were recognized as SEC Academic Honor Roll selections for the spring semester last month.
