
Summer Recap: Vale Competes in First Ever Challenger Event

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Duarte Vale continued his tennis play this summer after appearing in his first ever challenger event - the Porto Challenger 80 - where he took on Japan's Yosuke Watanuki.
The following week, Vale won his way to the singles semifinals at the M15 Almada tournament after winning three matches in a row in straight sets.
His first-round win came against the Netherland's Michiel De Krom, 6-3, 6-3, before defeating Israel's Ben Patael, 6-2, 6-4, in the second round.
Vale advanced through the quarterfinals after securing a victory over France's Ugo Blanchet, 6-2, 7-5, then eventually lost in the semifinals to Great Britain's Daniel Cox.
At the same tournament, he tallied a doubles win with teammate Pedro Araujo after they put together a 6-0, 7-5, win against Matthew Dellavedova and David Quayle.
Vale also collected two more singles to advance to the quarterfinals at the M15 Castelo Branco tournament after defeating Spain's Miguel Damas, 7-6 (7), 6-3, and France's Martin Breysach, 6-2, 6-4, in the first and second rounds, respectively.
Most recently, Vale and teammate Mwendwa Mbithi won a tough match against Brazil's Lucca Pinto and Bryan Aguiar Kuntz, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 11-9, at the M15 Monastir tournament.
