Jonah Braswell joined Nate Bonetto in the singles rankings, while Florida is one of two programs with three ranked doubles pairs.
GAINSEVILLE, Fla. – The fall season for the Florida men's tennis team was a fruitful first half enjoying 65 singles wins and 20 doubles wins, notably earning 17 total ranked victories. In the final fall rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Wednesday morning, two Gators are ranked for singles and three pairs earned their spots in the doubles rankings.
Sophomore Nate Bonetto jumped 40 spots from the preseason rankings to No. 51 after finishing the fall with a 9-4 record. The Bend, Ore. native picked up two ranked victories over members of the Big Ten against No. 84 Justin Boulais of Ohio State and No. 49 Hunter Heck of Illinois.
Freshman Jonah Braswell made his debut at No. 93 in the top-125 after not being eligible for the September preseason rankings. Braswell led Florida with 18 matches played, 15 singles wins, seven matches against ranked opponents and four ranked victories. He advanced the furthest among the team at the ITA Southeast Regional after reaching the semifinals. The Sarasota, Fla. native also went an impressive 8-1 at the ITA All-American Championships and finished in the Round of 32 of the main draw after beginning in pre-qualifying.
Initially with no duos in the preseason rankings, three Florida tandems joined the top-60 to end the year. Florida is tied with Tennessee for the most ranked doubles pairings in the country.
The freshmen combo of Tanapatt Nirundorn and Togan Tokac – nicknamed T&T – are ranked 10th after exploding onto the scene at the ITA All-American Championships. T&T played their way through qualifying into the semifinals of the main draw at the tournament and beat five ranked pairs, including No. 3 Sander Jong/Lui Maxted of TCU. They led all Gators with eight doubles wins this fall.
Southpaws – No. 37 Bonetto and Axel Nefve – partnered up for only the Gator Fall Invite, earning wins in all three matches. Bonetto/Nefve dropped just nine of 33 games across their three victories together to win the doubles final of the Blue draw.
Tied for No. 43, Braswell and Lukas Greif are ranked after cruising to a semifinal appearance at the ITA Southeast Regional. They defeated three straight opponents before falling to eventual champions Nicolas Acevedo/Flip Krolo from FAU. Their success carried over to the Gator Fall Invite in a strong victory over UNF's Rodrigo Crespo/Jonas Hartenstein to go 4-2 on the fall.
