Florida Makes Declarations for NCAA East Preliminaries

The Gators will take 46 entries to Bloomington next week.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -  Confirmed entries to next week's NCAA Preliminary Meets were made official to the public by the NCAA on Thursday afternoon.

Florida will compete in the NCAA East Preliminary next week in Bloomington, Ind. on the campus of Indiana University.

The Gators will take 46 entries with 23 on the women's side and 23 on the men's side.

Women:

Florida's No. 2-ranked Women's Track and Field team is coming off its first SEC Outdoor Championship since 2018.

The Gators won the NCAA Championship during the indoor season and will be among the candidates to win the outdoor title as well.

Jasmine Moore enters next week's NCAA East Prelims as the top seed in the region in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump.

In fact, Florida will have the top two seeds in the region in both the Long Jump (Moore and Claire Bryant) and the Triple Jump (Moore and Natricia Hooper).

Bryant will also compete in the High Jump.

The Heptathlon is not contested at the regional level, meaning Anna Hall and Sterling Lester are both automatically qualified through to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Instead, Hall will contest the 400-meter hurdles and is the top-seeded athlete in the event. She will also run the 100-meter hurdles.

Lester will run the 400 meters and 100-meter hurdles and is expected to be in contention to run on Florida's 4x400 relay team in the qualifying round.

Vanessa Watson will enter the 400-meter hurdles with hopes of making a return trip to Oregon.

Talitha Diggs completed the very tough 200m/400m double at the SEC Outdoor Championships but will focus solely on the 400 meters as the calendar turns to NCAA Competition.

Diggs was the NCAA Indoor Champion in the 400 meters back in March. She will be joined by Lester, Taylor Manson, Doneisha Anderson and Cait Tate in the event.

Imogen Barrett and Gabrielle Wilkinson will both run the 800 meters while Vasileia Spyrou will compete in the 1500 meters.

Parker Valby earned her qualifying mark to regionals in outstanding fashion after throwing down a 15:32.41 to win silver in the 5000 meters at the SEC Outdoor Championships.

Thea Jensen comes into the NCAA East Prelims as the No. 16 seed in the Shot Put, putting her in firm contention to make the trip to Eugene.

Sasha Wells (100mH), Alissa Braxton (Triple Jump) and Pamela O'Brien (3000mS) will also contest individual events for the Gators.

Florida's 4x400 relay team is seeded third in the region and earned it's mark with the team of Manson, Lester, Anderson and Diggs at the SEC Outdoor Championships.

Men:

Florida's No. 4-ranked Men's Track and Field team was fourth at the SEC Outdoor Championships and brings a deep squad of sprinters to Bloomington.

The Gators will have a heavy presence in the sprint events including five in the 400 meters.

Joseph Fahnbulleh and Tyler Davis are running the 100m/200m double and will take up roles on Florida's 4x100 team as well.

PJ Austin and Dedrick Vanover will also run the 100 meters and the 4x100. Kemuel Santana will also run the 200 meters.

Champion Allison, Anthony Brodie, Jacob Miley, Jacory Patterson and Ryan Willie make up the Florida contingent in the 400 meters.

Sam Austin was 10th during the indoor season at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 800 meters and will look to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships as a true freshman.

Caleb Foster will contest the 110-meter hurdles and Long Jump next week. He is joined in the Long Jump by SEC Bronze Medalist Malcolm Clemons.

Jonathan Miller and Michael Holloway II make up Florida's contingent in the Triple Jump.

Collin Sieffert ran a personal best of 51.08 at the SEC Outdoor Championships and is set to compete in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA East Prelims.

Mark Porter (Javelin) and Edward Shelikoff (Discus) are set to make up Florida's team in the throws.

Porter comes into the weekend seeded ninth with hopes of making the trip to Oregon.

Florida will also bring the fastest 4x100 and 4x400 relays in the nation to Bloomington.

The Gators swept the relays at the SEC Outdoor Championships and will look to secure bids for both teams to Oregon next month.

Action in Bloomington begins next Wednesday and lasts through Saturday.
