
Mark Porter Punches Ticket to Oregon, Florida Sends 9 Entries to Friday’s Quarterfinals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Florida's men opened up the festivities this week at the NCAA East Prelims with the First Round of action on Wednesday.
The Gators sent nine entries through to Friday's quarterfinals in the running events with Mark Porter (Javelin) grabbing Florida's first spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the men's side.
24 entries from Wednesday's First Round running events remain on the men's side with the Top 12 from Friday's quarterfinals advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Mark Porter delivered his qualifying mark on his first throw of the afternoon. He launched the Javelin 70.64m/231-9 to move into an advancing position.
That mark was all he needed to punch his third-consecutive trip to Eugene, his first with Florida.
Porter joins Anna Hall (Heptathlon) and Sterling Lester (Heptathlon) as Gators already qualified through to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Joseph Fahnbulleh qualified through to the quarterfinals with races in the 100 meters and 200 meters sandwiched around a weather delay.
The Hopkins, Minn. native threw down a massive personal best in the 100 meters (10.03) (+1.9) to take the second-best qualifying mark into Friday.
He came back and cruised home in 20.23 (+0.6) in the 200 meters to earn a spot in the blocks for Friday's quarterfinals.
Dedrick Vanover was also an automatic qualifier in the 100 meters into the quarterfinals. He took the second spot in Heat 1 with a time of 10.19 (+1.2).
Tyler Davis qualified through to the quarterfinals in the 200 meters with a time of 20.78.
Florida's contingent of runners in the 400 meters sent four through to Friday night.
Champion Allison (45.28) and Ryan Willie (45.34) were the top-two qualifiers in the First Round with Jacory Patterson (46.46) and Jacob Miley (46.66) also qualifying through.
The Gators will have 4 of the 24 competitors in the field for the quarterfinals of the 400 meters.
Collin Sieffert dropped a huge personal best of 50.81 to advance through to Friday's quarterfinals in the 400-meter hurdles.
Malcolm Clemons recorded a mark of 7.47m/24-6.25 (-3.1) to finish 13th at the NCAA East Prelims in the Long Jump, narrowly missing out on a trip to Eugene.
Florida will return to action tomorrow with First Round events for the Women. The Gators will have entries in the 100-meter hurdles, 1500 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 400-meter hurdles and the Long Jump and Shot Put.
Field events will take the Top 12 tomorrow and advance them directly to Eugene. The Top 24 of tomorrow's running events will take to Saturday's quarterfinals.
Thea Jensen (Shot Put), Jasmine Moore (Long Jump) and Claire Bryant (Long Jump) are the Gators set to contest field events tomorrow afternoon.
The men will return to the track on Friday for the quarterfinals of today's running events, the quarterfinals of the 4x100 and 4x400 relays and the First Round of the Discus and Triple Jump.
