BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Florida's women handled business in their opening day at the NCAA East Prelims on Thursday afternoon.
The Gators sent 11 of 13 entries in the running events through to Saturday's quarterfinals and saw Claire Bryant, Jasmine Moore and Thea Jensen punch tickets to Eugene.
Florida's women now have five entries secured to next month's NCAA Outdoor Championships. Bryant (Long Jump), Jensen (Shot Put) and Moore (Long Jump) join Sterling Lester (Heptathlon) and Anna Hall (Heptathlon) with tickets secured to Oregon.
Moore was the top qualifier in the Long Jump on Thursday night with her mark of 6.57m/21-6.75. Her opening mark of 6.41m/21-0.5 would've been enough but she was able to better her mark on the second attempt of the day.
With her bid secured, she passed on her third attempt. She will have the chance to punch her ticket in the Triple Jump on Saturday where she will be the top-seeded athlete.
Bryant moved into the qualifying spots on her opening jump (6.21m/20-4.5) but used a third attempt of 6.32m/20-9 to solidify her trip to Oregon for the second-straight year.
Jensen saved the best for last as the final competitor of the evening in the Shot Put competition.
On her second attempt, she smashed her personal best and set a new Danish National Record in the Shot Put at 16.97m/55-8.25.
That mark pushed her all the way into the Top-12 and earned her a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time.
The Gators were equally as successful in the running events after dominating in the field events all day.
Florida sent all three athletes through to the quarterfinals of the 100-meter hurdles.
Lester laid down a personal best of 13.30 (+0.5) to qualify on time while Hall (13.37) (-0.8) and Sasha Wells (13.45) (-0.6) advanced as top-three finishers in their respective heats.
The Gators secured four spots in the 400 meters for Friday's quarterfinals.
Between the men and women, eight Florida athletes will race in quarterfinals of the 400 meters.
Talitha Diggs (51.82) and Taylor Manson (52.53) went through automatically while Lester (53.23) and Cait Tate (52.84) advanced on time.
Gabrielle Wilkinson and Imogen Barrett cruised through the First Round of the 800 meters, winning their heats in 2:04.74 and 2:04.80 respectively.
The pair of SEC Medalists will line up on Saturday evening for a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
