FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Florida soccer lost 3-0 at No. 10 Arkansas Thursday evening in front of 2,478 at Razorback Field - the sixth-largest crowd in the 30-year history of UA soccer.
One more ranked opponent awaits Florida later this month as the Gators close regular-season action playing host to No. 15 South Carolina.
This Evening's Scoring:
After a scoreless opening half, the Razorbacks scored early in the second half. Sophia Aragon's right footed strike out of a Florida scrum scored from short distance in the 47th minute.
A corner kick led to the Razorbacks second goal in the 67th minute. Florida's Alexa Goldberg pushed the ball sent in by Ava Tankersley at the far post but Sabrina Jones's header scored off that deflection from a sharp angle.
The Razorbacks pushed the lead out to 3-0 when Tankersley scored from six yards off the square pass from Avery Wren.
For the match, Arkansas outshot the Gators 15-6.
Hear from Coach Bohon:
On tonight's match:
"Credit to Arkansas as they came out with better intensity than we did in the second half. We did a good job in the first of predicting their attacks and winning more first and second balls. I thought we were a bounce or two away from having some close range chances early in the first.
"In the second half when they stretched a little wider, we didn't do a good enough job of sliding across. Once they scored, I made a coaching choice to take more risks to see if we could equalize. At this point in the season, a "good loss" doesn't matter. I loved seeing our team fight to the last second but we needed to put 90 minutes together to beat a high press team like Arkansas.
"We'll get home, pull out what we need from this film and put all of our energy towards Auburn as it's a must-win situation for us at this point in the season." - Florida Head Coach Samantha Bohon
