Florida remains in Gainesville this week to take part in the Florida University Last Chance Meet on Thursday
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators Track and Field teams will compete for the final time this regular season at the Florida University Last Chance Meet. The meet takes place in Gainesville, Florida at the Jimmy Carnes Track at the Alachua County Sports & Event Center. The track is named after legendary Florida Track & Field coach Jimmy Carnes who led the program from 1964-1976, was the head coach of the 1980 U.S. Olympic team, and helped start the Florida Track Club in 1966.
This is the second time this season the Gators have participated at a meet at the Jimmy Carnes Track, having taken part in the Alachua County Collegiate Invitational earlier this season.
At the Alachua County Collegiate Invitational, Florida won three event titles and were led by Emily Culley who placed first in both the women's mile and 1000m. In the 1000m, she ran a personal best and facility record time (2:57.58) on the way to her first-place finish. Reed Legg was the other Gator to win an event, with his title coming in the men's 3000m (8:18.83). Both Culley and Legg will be participating in the Last Chance Meet.
Through the first five competitions of the season, the Gators have achieved 46 new personal bests, three facility records, and 25 event titles. Most recently, the team sent runners to the Tyson Invitational and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The Gators earned event titles in the women's 60m (Talitha Diggs) women's triple jump (Jasmine Moore), men's long jump invitational (Malcolm Clemons), men's 60m hurdles (Kurt Powdar), men's 200m (Robert Gregory), men's 800m (Sam Austin), and men's 4x400m relay (Patterson, Bamidele, Powell, Willie) at the Tyson Invitational.
At the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Imogen Barrett broke the women's 800m school record (2:01.77) which was set in 1999. Additionally, Parker Valby improved upon her time in the 3000m (8:49.71), an event where she already held the school record, and Gabrielle Wilkinson finished with the seventh fastest women's mile in school history (4:38.43).
