Alicia Dudeney & Bente Spee's Strong Run Ends in NCAA Doubles Championship

Dudeney/Spee defeated two top-50 duos, including the No. 6 from LSU, to reach the quarterfinals.
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida women's tennis season came to a close on Thursday afternoon after strong efforts from the doubles tandem of Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee fell short in the NCAA Doubles Championships quarterfinals.
Florida's first set was a tough one against UNC's No. 11 Fiona Crawley/Carson Tanguilig, as the Tar Heels started out by winning the opening four games. No. 21 Dudeney/Spee earned their first game by breaking thanks to a strong backhand from Spee, which Tanguilig couldn't handle. However, UNC broke back and held the Gators off on deuce point to win the opener 6-1.
UNC kept their foot on the gas in the following frame, as the Gators were broken in the opening game. Dudeney/Spee earned a love-hold to shorten the gap 2-1, but were then broken to love to fall behind two breaks at 4-1. After exchanging games on-serve, Crawley/Tanguilig took down Dudeney/Spee on a deuce point hold 6-2 for the victory.
Dudeney and Spee's run at the NCAA Doubles Championship was the farthest by a Gator tandem since 2017. The two sophomores finish their season 16-5 as a pairing and brought down six ranked-duos. Additionally, Dudeney/Spee earned All-American recognition by the ITA for reaching the quarterfinals.
