Men’s 4x400 Relay Steals the Show on Day 2 of Razorback Invitational

Reheem Hayles, Wanya McCoy, Ashton Schwartzman and Jevaughn Powell place first and record the top time in the NCAA in 2024.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - For the second day in a row the Florida Gators Track & Field program's performance at the Razorback Invitational was highlighted by a relay, this time in the 4x400m variety.

Reheem Hayles, Wanya McCoy, Ashton Schwartzman and Jevaughn Powell took home first place in come from behind fashion recording a time of 3:04.08 which stands as the fastest time in the NCAA in 2024. The men were propelled to their exceptional finish by an incredible final 400m by Jevaughn Powell. Trailing by two seconds when he received the baton, the redshirt senior from Clarendon, Jamaica made up ground to the tune of a 45.04 split.

KHAN RUNS SUB-4

Two weeks after he finished in first in the Men's 800m at the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational, Khan continued his early success in the 2024 campaign in the Men's Mile. The freshman becomes just the second Gator in history to run a sub-four minute mile as he crossed the finish line in 3:59.20, highlighted by a final 400m that spanned just 57.7 seconds and final 200m that lasted 27.47 seconds. His mark also stands as the Indian National Record in the event.

AUSTIN CHASES WORLD CHAMP

Junior, Sam Austin finished as the top collegiate runner in the Men's 800m. His performance can be credited to a time of 1:46.80 which falls just 0.74 seconds short of his personal best which he set at the 2023 Tyson Invitational. The only competitor to top Austin's time was 2023 800m World Champion Marco Arop (Canada) who completed the race in 1:45.50.

THORNER FINISHES WITH PR IN HEPTATHLON

After four events on Friday, Oliver Thorner had just three remaining in Saturday's action. After recording a personal record in the 60m H (8.42) to start the day and finishing eighth in the pole vault, Thorner's placement and chase of his personal best in the Men's Heptathlon came down to the 1000m.

Thorner did not leave his fate in the event up to chance. The redshirt-senior from Street, England dominated the field recording a new 1000m personal record of 2:29.50 topping the second place finisher by seven secounds. All of Thorner's events culminated in 5655 points which is a new personal record and stands as the third best finish on Florida's All-Time Top 10 List.

STARK FINISHES THIRD IN 60M

After qualifying for the finals thanks to a 7.26 second finish, Grace Stark topped her qualifying time by 0.05 seconds (7.21) in the finals on route to a third place finish.

GATORS CLAIM THREE TOP 10 SPOTS IN 400M

Prior to their success in the Men's 4x400m relay, Jevaughn Powell, Reheem Hayles and Ashton Schwartzman finished third, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the Men's 400m. Hayles recorded his indoor personal best with a time of 46.69 and Schwartzman fell just 0.2 seconds short of his record which he set in 2023 at the Tiger Paw Invite.
