Gators Tennis Opens Conference Play at LSU

BATON ROUGE, LA. – The Gators will be traveling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to open their SEC season against LSU. No. 19 Florida will enter conference action 4-5 while LSU opens their season unranked and 7-2. The Tigers are coming off a 4-2 win against TCU. Florida is looking to regroup after their 5-2 loss against Pepperdine.
The Gators initially opened their season strong, defeating Baylor (6-1) and then defeating FIU (4-20 and San Diego (4-3) during ITA Kick-Off Weekend to clinch their ticket to ITA Indoor National Championships. Florida then faced FSU at the USTA National Campus where they moved to 4-0 after a dominating 4-2 win against the Seminoles.
The Gators then saw high ranked opponents during the ITA Indoor National Championship weekend which notched a few losses onto their overall record. Florida first met No. 2 Stanford and were blanked 4-0. After falling to Stanford Florida moved to the consolation bracket where they fell against conference mates No.4 Georgia (4-1) and No.14 Auburn (4-0).
The final non-conference match for the Gators was another tough loss, with No.13 Pepperdine taking a 5-2 win. Despite falling to the Waves, the Gators have found tough competitors in freshman Qavia Lopez and Malwina Rowinska. Their duo has gone 4-3 ahead of conference action. In singles, Lopez has an overall record of 4-1 and Rowinska picked up her first singles victory of the season against Pepperdine bringing her record to 1-1.
Other fierce competitors include Rachel Gailis who has gone 5-2 in singles and 4-4 in doubles. Carly Briggs has faced off against some of the highest ranked players this season and now stands at 2-7 in singles and 2-3 in doubles. Alicia Dudeney has also proven to be a confident player with a singles record of 4-3, and going 3-3 on the doubles side with partner Bente Spee.
Sara Dahlstrom enters conference action 1-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles with Gailis. Bente Spee is 3-3 in doubles and has not seen any singles action. Sophie Williams only appeared in one singles match ahead of SEC and documented an overall record of 0-1. Emily de Oliveira notched one singles win, bringing her record to 1-5.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gators most recently faced off against Pepperdine where they dropped 5-2 and moved to 4-5 overall. Qavia Lopez and Malwina Rowinska snagged the only points for Florida in singles action. Rowinksa defeated Jasmine Conway 6-4, 6-2 to secure her first singles win of the spring season. Lopez managed to grab another point for the Gators after defeating Nikki Redelijk in the first set 6-2, before Redelijk took the second set 7-5. Qavia notched the first and only point in the forced third set taking down Redelijk 6-2, 1-0.
