GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida is the No. 14 seed in the 2024 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament. The host Gators will enter the first round with a 15-8 overall record (11-2 SEC). Florida has now been slated to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament for a combined 23 times in program history.
After the NCAA Regional Championships (May 3-5), Super Regional play will begin the following weekend and determine the eight teams who will earn their spot into the NCAA National Championships. The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will all be held at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla., from May 17-20.
The Gators will begin their NCAA Tournament journey facing Stetson University. This will be the first time the two teams have seen each other since 2009, where Florida defeated the Hatters 6-1, giving the Gators a four-match winning streak over Stetson.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
An unranked Stetson team will enter the matchup with a 15-6 overall record and is undefeated (10-0) in the ASUN conference. In Stetson's last matchup, the Hatters defeated Florida Gulf Coast 4-1, to claim the ASUN conference regular-season tournament championship.
The second match will be between No. 22 Miami (11-7) and No. 28 FIU (19-2).
HISTORY OF THE FIRST & SECOND ROUNDS
Florida proves to be a difficult out in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament each year. In the first round, the Gators are a perfect 24-0 and an impressive 20-4 in the second round. Last season, UF defeated North Florida, 4-0 in the first round of the tournament before taking the victory over Georgia Tech 4-1 in the second round. Including the 2024 season, the Gators have hosted the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament 23 times in program history.
