GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) named sophomore Florida point guard Liv McGill one of its Ann Meyers Drysdale National Players of the Week, and the SEC named her the SEC Player of the Week presented by Allstate today after she led the Gators to a 3-0 start to the 2025-26 season, establishing a number of program and personal career highs in the process.
McGill ranks fourth among all NCAA Division I players in scoring (27.7), tied for 20th in assists per game (7.3), and tied for 10th in steals per game (5.0). She leads the SEC in scoring average, is tied for fourth in assists per game, while ranking second in steals per game, and tied for second in made three-pointers per game.
The preseason second-team all-conference honoree has already established single-game career highs this season in points (38), made three-pointers (6), and made field goals (13), and tied her career high of seven steals, all against Chattanooga on Nov. 6. Her 38 points against Chattanooga were the most in a home game in Florida women's basketball history.
Over the first two games of the 2025-26 season, McGill scored 64 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, handed out 19 assists and picked up 12 steals. Per OptaStats, "the only other NBA, WNBA or Division I men's or women's player this century to have 60/15/15/10 in those categories over a two-game span was Dwayne Wade from Feb. 28-March 2, 2009."
In well over 100 combined years and 1000s of player games of Florida men's and women's basketball, no Gator had ever recorded a game with as many as 38 points and 10 assists, or 38 points and seven steals. McGill accomplished both of those feats in the same game on Nov. 6 vs. Chattanooga.
McGill became just the sixth player in NCAA Division I Women's Basketball history since the 1999-2000 season to record a game of 38+ points, and 10+ assists when she scored 38 points and handed out 10 dimes against Chattanooga, Nov. 6, 2025.
Since the 1999-2000 season only three players in SEC history have recorded multiple games of at least 25 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. McGill joined that list by reaching those marks in each of the season's first two games.
Since the 1999-2000 season, there has been only one player in NCAA Division I Women's Basketball history to record a game of at least 38 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists and 7 steals—McGill, who posted those numbers against Chattanooga on Nov. 6, 2025.
McGill nearly recorded a triple-double in each of the year's first two games coming up one rebound and one assist shy in the season opener, (26 points, nine rebounds, nine assists) and two rebounds shy in game number two (36 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists).
The Gators put their undefeated record on the line against Samford on Thursday, Nov. 13 at Exactech Arena at the Stephen O'Connell Center. Tip against the Bulldogs is slated for 7 p.m. EST.
