Florida Rolls Past North Florida with 6-1 Win

Gators stay perfect at home, defeating UNF in a commanding 6-1 victory

GAINESVILLE, Fla. –  The Florida men's tennis team defeated North Florida 6-1 in their final non-conference match on Saturday at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex. The Gators secured the doubles point and posted five singles wins to extend their undefeated record at home to 4-0.

UF clinched the doubles point after wins on courts three and two. The Gators gained an advantage with a 6-1 win from freshmen pair Rafael Segado and Ben Weintraub over Bruno Vietri and Jean Deloziere. The Orange and Blue captured the doubles point after Kevin Edengren and Niels Villard defeated Chase Healey and Joao Portugal, 6-3. 
 
Adhithya Ganesan and Henry Jefferson led North Florida's Andreas Scott and Gianluca Filoramo 5-4 before the match was left unfinished.
 
In singles, UF extended its lead as Jefferson secured a straight set 6-1, 6-1 victory over Scott on court one. Freshman Villard, logged another point for Florida after defeating Filoramo 6-1, 6-4.

The Gators sealed the match on court five, where Segado cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Healey.
 
Despite Florida clinching the match, both teams decided to continue play.

Bradley Paliska earned the fifth point for Florida on court three. Paliska took the first set 6-2, and mirrored that result in the second set defeating Vietri in a straight set effort.

Edengren battled Deloziere on court two in three sets. Edengren won the first set 6-1, but Deloziere responded in the second winning the tiebreak 7-6. The match went into a super tiebreak with Edengren taking the third 10-3.

Francesco Cordova faced Portugal on court six. The freshman fought hard in the first set, but ultimately fell 7-2, after falling in the tiebreak. Cordova attempted to regain momentum but could not hold on, dropping the second set 6-2.

One Gator is ranked in singles competition: No. 54 Jeremy Jin . Florida's Tanapatt Nirundorn and Henry Jefferson doubles tandem also garnered a No. 11 ranking, followed by Kevin Edengren and Jin at No. 81.
