The Gators end four-match win streak after dropping road match against Mississippi State
Starkville, Miss. โ ย The Florida men's tennis team fell to Mississippi State 5-2 at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre on Saturday afternoon. The loss ends the Gators four match win streak. MSU clinched the doubles point, and the Gators struggled in singles, only taking two courts.
On the doubles side, Jeremy Jinย andย Adhithya Ganesanย fell to No. 39 Niccolo Baroni and M. Martinez Serrano 6-4 on court one. Mississippi State claimed the point after No. 4 Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez defeated No. 18 Henry Jefferson and Tanapatt Nirundorn 6-2. The Bulldogs led 1-0 heading into singles.
MSU extended their lead to 2-0 striking first in singles on court four. No 113 Jefferson faced No. 95 Martinez Serrano and fell in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman Niels Villard opened the scoring column for the Gators posting a 6-2, 6-1 win over Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes on court six.
The next point for MSU came after JanMagnus Johnson was topped 6-1, 6-3 by No. 117 Baroni. The Gators trailed the Bulldogs 3-1. Florida's next and final point came from Kevin Edengren as he manned court five and pulled off a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Dusan Milanovic.
MSU sealed the match shortly after on court one. No. 124 Ganesan could not find his momentum against No. 38 Sanchez Martinez falling 6-3, 6-2.
The remaining match was a battle between No. 65 Jin and No. 100 Jovanovic. The first set went into a tiebreak with Jovanovic securing the win 7-5. Jin could not recover in the second, dropping the second 6-3.
