Ty Host and Henry Jefferson reach the championship match before a 10-2 match tiebreak loss to UCF
ATLANTA, Ga. -- Florida men's tennis wrapped up the ITA Southeast Regional with a trip to the doubles championship match. Ty Host and Henry Jefferson opened the morning with a 6-1, 6-4 semifinal win over UCF's Nicolas Oliveira and Clement Lemire.
The Gators then waited all afternoon for their final opponent, as the other semifinals did not begin until early afternoon. UCF's Wissam Abderrahman and Mohammad Alkotop eventually defeated Georgia's Noah Johnston and Maxime Dubouch in a three-set tie breaker match.
In the final, Host and Jefferson started strong, using multiple aces to take the first set 6-4. The Knights answered in the second set, winning 6-3 to force a decider. Florida struggled to return serve in the third set, which led to a 10-2 UCF win in the tiebreak.
The Florida Gators are back in action with Alaa Trifi, Kevin Edengren and Host making the trip to the Silver State of Nevada where they will compete in the ITF M25 Tournament in Las Vegas Oct. 26-Nov. 1.
