GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Former Florida men's golfer and member of the 2023 NCAA National Championship Team, Ricky Castillo captured his first PGA TOUR victory at the Puerto Rico Open on Sunday. The victory is the 100th all-time by a Florida Gator on the PGA TOUR.
The victory earns Castillo exemptions into The PLAYERS Championship (March 12-15) at TPC Sawgrass and the PGA Championship (May 14-17) at Aronimink Golf Club.
Castillo also collected his second professional win as he won in his Korn Ferry TOUR debut in a playoff at the Wichita Open following UF's National Championship in 2023. He started the final round with one-shot lead at Grand Reserve Golf Club and regained the lead behind his chip-in for eagle on the par-5 sixth. Castillo played the final two holes with a one-shot lead at 17-under and made par-par to hold for the victory as he was bogey-free for 52 straight holes to end the tournament.
The native of Yorba Linda, Calif., shot a weekend low and bogey-free 67 (-5) in the final round after three consecutive rounds of 68 (-4) for a 72-hole score of 271 (-17).
