?ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ran a 9.96 in the 100 meters to win the 2010 outdoor individual national championship in that event
?ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Became the only student-athlete in Florida history to win national championships with two different teams (football 2008; indoor track and field 2010 & 2011)
?ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ran at the 2008 Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, recording a time of 10.01 in the 100-meter dash, finishing first in the quarter-final race, breaking the American junior record of 10.06 (Walter Dix, 2005), and the national high school record of 10.08 (J-Mee Samuels, 2005). The time tied the world junior record (10.01 โ held by Darrel Brown, 2003)

?ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ran the 100-meter dash and the 4x100 meter relay on the Florida menโs outdoor track team
?ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Cousin, Cameron Demps, a defensive back who plays for Winston-Salem State University, was widely considered the fastest player available in Georgia in 2008
?ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Wore an orange and blue wig at his press conference instead of a hat at the ESPN Zone in Orlando

?ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โFriday Night Lightsโ is his favorite football movie
?ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Still keeps in touch with Teri Batts, a data-entry specialist who convinced Coach Meyer to take a chance on recruiting Demps. She started helping students who want to make big changes in their lives and she made sure he didnโt cut class in high school and stayed on the right path
?ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Captain of team Against All Odds for the 2011 Gator Football Charity Challenge

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
โI donโt think Iโve ever played against anyone as quick and fast as those two guys (Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey). Itโs very hard but itโs getting me better every day, and Iโm learning a lot from them, too.โ (8/16/11)
Matt Elam, UF safety
โIt was close, but maybe not as close as some people thought. There were people saying I wasnโt going to play football this year. Once I got back, I talked to my parents and talked to my coaches and decided to come back and play football for my senior year. Italy was fun. I just wanted to get a feel for what it was like. It was a good experience for me. Hopefully, I can play at the next level. Hopefully, I have options.โ (8/6/11)
Jeff Demps, UF running back
โIt feels good just to be around my teammates and just to be in this football atmosphere. I feel better than ever, and Iโm ready to kick off the season.โ (8/6/11)
Jeff Demps, UF running back
"The term "world-class speed" gets tossed around a lot; Demps legitimately has it. He isn't just the fastest man in college football; he's also the fastest man in college sports." (5/18/11)
Bruce Feldman, ESPN.com
"It's his work ethic and his motor. It's really something special. From the time he showed up here through today, it's always full-go. This is an overachieving guy that has a lot of gifts. He has an energy and enthusiasm for everything. People feed off him. They love to be around him. He's the hardest-working guy on our football team and I can't speak for our track coach, but I believe he's probably the hardest working guy on our track team too." (5/18/11)
Mickey Marotti, UF Strength & Conditioning Coach
โHeโs an outstanding player. Heโs a great player for them.ย He is just one outstanding player at what he does.ย Heโs a good runner and has great speed on the perimeter, probably the likes of which we have not seen.โ (9/27/10)
Nick Saban, Alabama Head Coach
"He's fast. If he gets one seam, he might be gone. He runs strong. He's one of the fastest guys in the country." (9/22/10)
Derrick Locke, Kentucky running back
โHeโs done a great job. We canโt ask for anything more. He returns kicks, runs the ball plenty of times during the game, and he goes hard. No matter how tired he is, heโs going to keep going. Thatโs what makes him so reliable.โ (9/20/10)
John Brantley, UF quarterback
โI told [Meyer] that regardless of anything that happens and no matter what that [Demps] was the kind of a man that he would always be proud of that he coached. Jeff is the hardest-working, most-dedicated human being I've ever met -- man or child.'' (9/16/10)
Teri Batts, Dempsโ high school guidance counselor
โDemps has taken his game to a whole new level, and itโs a good thing for the Gators. Thatโs what speed does, and nobody in college football brings the kind of speed to the field that Demps does each Saturday.โ (9/15/10)
Chris Low, ESPN.com
โHeโs fast and heโs a playmaker. If he has space, heโs going to hurt you. If you donโt reduce space, wrap up and gang tackle, heโs going to have a breakout game.โ (9/14/10)
Derek Dooley, Tennessee Head Coach
"Special guy. Speed and you better wrap up. They know what they're doing. So they'll move those guys around, get him the ball out of the backfield, throw it to him, pop him out. You've just always got to be conscious of where he is." (9/13/10)
Derek Dooley, Tennessee Head Coach
"Jeff's certainly a home-run hitter. I mean, you give him a crease, how many guys in the country are going to keep up with him? He just ran downhill with unbelievable velocity. It wasn't just fast. It was powerful." (9/12/10)
Steve Addazio, former UF Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach and current Temple Head Coach
"I think everyone knows how I feel about Dempsy. I know how the offensive line feels about Demps. You give him a crack and that guy is gone." (9/11/10)
Urban Meyer, former UF Head Coach
"Jeff is a great back. When he rips off those big runs it also sets it up for the other backs that come in. We call him the stallion. He's like a horse. He makes big returns on kickoff returns on offense and then busts off for a 62-yard run. He's the fastest running back in the nation and one of the most explosive running backs in the nation." (9/11/10)
Emmanuel Moody, former UF running back
โBut Demps, billed as a darkhorse Heisman Trophy candidate by ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, came through when the Gators needed him most.โ (9/5/10)
Kevin Brockway, Gainesville Sun, on Dempsโ performance vs. Miami University
"I think if I get an open seam it'll be a pretty good day for the Gators.โ (9/3/10)
Jeff Demps, UF running back
โI think Iโm tough enough. Thatโs the main part of it. Youโve got to have that demeanor. (Coach Drayton) is teaching all the backs about having that demeanor to put your pads down and get those one or two yards.โ (8/27/10)
Jeff Demps, UF running back
"In my opinion, Jeff will not be a track guy. He'll be a running back in the NFL. And honestly, that's what Jeff wants. He wants to be able to contribute to the track program here. He wants to help us win the national title. That's great, but in the big picture Jeff wants to play in the NFL. Football is very important to him and I support that." (8/16/10)
Mike Holloway, Florida Track & Field Head Coach
โIf you know Demps, you're not too surprised (by his success). He puts in the work. It's absolutely important to him. He's absolutely committed to whatever he's doing at that point in time. Demps has been a straight-line guy ... he hasn't been a shake-and-bake guy. This is where his game has improved." (8/16/10)
Stan Drayton, former UF Running Backs Coach
"I can honestly say, in the 16 years I've been coaching, that one other time I've had an athlete (Brian Westbrook), a person like that, that I've had the pleasure of coaching.โ (8/10/10)
Stan Drayton, former UF Running Backs Coach
โHe's very explosive right now. The thing I'm seeing. ... we had a little one-on-one tackling drill today, and he's making people miss. He's starting to get that lateral movement, that twitching in his run. I'm really, really excited about Demps.โ (8/9/10)
Stan Drayton, former UF Running Backs Coach
โJeff Demps is a war daddy. He is a fast, accountable guy.โ (8/6/10)
Steve Addazio, former UF Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach and current Temple Head Coach
โJeff Demps is known across the country for his speed, but his toughness running the football is often underrated. He is as strong pound-for-pound as any player on the team. It shows with his ability to run through tackles.โ (7/30/10)
Cody Jones, GatorCountry.com
โJeff Demps has the kind of speed that scares anybody. Heโs one of the best big-play threats in the league and will get even more chances this season.โ (7/21/10)
Chris Low, ESPN.com
โJeff Demps is one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet. But for opponents of the Florida Gators, he is definitely double trouble.โ (7/2010)
Jim Harvin, Fightinโ Gators Magazine
โHe has a lot of God-given ability, and we have to give honor to that. The biggest thing about Jeff is he is a world-class person. His work ethic is unbelievable. He shows up every single day and gives you 100%. Jeff wants to learn and he wants to get better. He comes out every day and challenges himself to do that.โ (7/2010)
Mike Holloway, UF Track & Field Coach
โI love Jeff Demps. That young man loves the game of football. Heโs the same way at football practice, always wanting to learn and improve. All he wants to do is get better because he knows that will make the team better.โ
Urban Meyer, former UF Head Coach
โWith deadly straightaway speed, Demps has been one of the most exciting running backs in the conference the last two seasons.โ (6/27/10)
Edward Aschoff, Gainesville Sun
ย
โNow a freshman tailback at fifth-ranked Florida, he appears to be the swiftest running back ever to play college or professional football, according to track historians and an examination of performance lists compiled by USA Track and Field.โ (10/24/08)
Jere Longman, NY Times
โYouโre not going out on a limb to call him the fastest running back and one of the fastest few players ever to play the game,โ (10/24/08)
Jon Hendershott, a track historian and associate editor of Track and Field News
ย
โHeโs been tremendous. Itโs the energy he brings to the field. I know heโs one of the fastest teenagers in the world. He plays the game with intensity.โ (10/11/08)
Dan Mullen, Mississippi State Head Coach and former UF Offensive Coordinator
ย
"We kind of like fast people around here, and Demps is fast.โ (8/30/08)
Urban Meyer, former UF Head Coach
ย
"When I see the light, man, my eyes just get big.โ (8/30/08)
Jeff Demps, UF running back
ย
โI kind of fell in love with it because I really enjoyed doing it (track) and I began to get good at it. I was doing great things on the track. โฆ I kind of thought of it really like only a couple kids my age get a chance to (turn pro in track). โฆ It was kind of hard, but at the end of the day I picked football.โ (8/21/08)
Jeff Demps, UF running back
ย
"My first goal at the University of Florida is to earn a degree and show others who might come behind me that nothing is impossible. I love it when people consider me to be a role model. It's not a burden, because all you have to do is be yourself." (2/6/08)
Jeff Demps, UF running back
โThe speed is just ridiculous. I have never seen one that runs that fast. He can get 30 yards easily and just runs past people. He is an awesome player, but he has more attributes off the field than on the field. He shows leadership in the classroom and the weight room and inspires kids to work also. We have a special needs program for mentally challenged kids and the last spring we had one of the kids challenge Jeff and he let the kid win just to see the smile on the kids face. It really made the kidโs day.โ (1/9/08)
Walter Banks, South Lake High School Head Coach
