Biography

 

The starting tight end as a true freshman who was also a member of the 2005 Gator baseball team that was the runner-up at the 2005 NCAA College World Series…

CAREER: Appeared in 54 games as a Gator, with 16 starts…

2008: Saw time in all 14 games as a redshirt senior, securing four starts against Hawaii, Kentucky, Georgia and Florida State… Had four catches for 64 yards, a 16.0 average, including a career-long reception of 34 yards against Hawaii...Was a part of Florida’s third national title and eighth SEC crown with wins over Oklahoma in the FedEx BCS National Championship and Alabama in the SEC Championship, providing key blocks downfield on the offensive charge… Returned a short kickoff on special teams in the win over Tennessee… Graded out a champion against the Volunteers and for his efforts in the LSU game… Reeled in a 10-yard catch against Georgia…

2007: Received a medical hardship… Dressed for all 13 games of the season… Played in the first two games of the season against Western Kentucky and Troy but did not have a reception…

2006: Drew starts against Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Florida State and Arkansas… Had six receptions for 58 yards, a 9.7-yard average, and two touchdowns… Caught a five-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Andre Caldwell with 9:04 remaining in the SEC Championship Game to give UF a 38-28 lead over Arkansas… Helped the Gators convert a two-point conversion on the first touchdown versus Vanderbilt with a leaping catch on a throw by holder Butch Rowley… Made one catch for 13 yards against Georgia… Caught a season-high two passes for 17 yards at Auburn… Provided the Gators with the go-ahead score against LSU with a sprawling one-yard touchdown catch with 22 seconds left in the first half on a jump pass from Tim Tebow… Started his first game of the season at tight end in Florida’s win at Tennessee… Had his first grab of the year, a 22-yard reception on 3rd and 10 in the fourth quarter from Tebow… Saw action on offense against Southern Miss but did not have any receptions…

2005: Played in 12 games, making two starts (Vanderbilt and South Carolina)… Made 10 catches on the season for 121 yards (12.1 avg.) and one touchdown… Matched his entire season total with three catches for 21 yards in the win over Georgia, including his first touchdown reception of the season, a one-yard pass from Chris Leak… Had a career-high 33-yard reception against Florida State but fumbled on the play… Caught two passes for 27 yards in the Outback Bowl victory over Iowa, including a 21-yard grab in the third quarter… Had one catch for 12 yards against Vanderbilt… Caught one pass for seven yards at Alabama… Had a 12-yard reception in his first start of the campaign, the 49-28 win over Kentucky… Caught one pass for nine yards in the meeting with Wyoming…

2004: Developed into the squad’s top tight end who was also a regular on the kickoff return team… One of only two true freshmen to see action in 12 of UF’s games, making four starts (MTSU, South Carolina, Florida State and Miami)… First career start came against MTSU… Tied for fourth nationally among freshmen tight ends with four touchdown receptions… Tied for second in the SEC in touchdowns by a tight end with four… First UF true freshman tight end to catch a touchdown pass since 1979… Only tight end and true freshman to catch a pass that year or score a touchdown… Four touchdown receptions were the most by a UF true freshman since Ike Hilliard caught four in 1994 and one shy of the school record… Made collegiate debut in the season opener against Eastern Michigan at tight end and on kickoff coverage… First true freshman TE to play on opening day since Ben Troupe in 2000… Four of his eight catches went for touchdowns… Caught first career touchdown pass against LSU… Notched a career-high two touchdown catches and totaled 28 yards receiving versus South Carolina… Made two catches for 30 yards receiving, including two first-down conversions against Florida State… Hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass against Vanderbilt… Caught a 15-yard pass in the Peach Bowl versus Miami… Made first career road trip to Tennessee…

PREP: One of the nation’s top tight end prospects… Rated 49th-best prospect in the state of Texas by SuperPrep’s All-America issue… Rivals.com rated Casey a three-star athlete and as the seventh-best tight end prospect in the nation… Also ranked as the top tight end prospect from the Big 12 Conference region by Rivals.com… Member of TheInsiders.com Big 12 Conference Hot 100 (No. 49 overall)… Brought in 14 catches for 272 yards for a 19.4 yards per catch average as a senior… Had 19 receptions for 365 yards and three touchdowns as a junior, averaging 19.2 yards per catch in a run-oriented offense… The bulk of those yards came in the playoffs, where he caught six passes for 113 yards and two TDs… His 31-yard scoring pass helped open the floodgates as the Lobos stunned previously unbeaten Garland, 45-0, in bi-district… Was a prep pro baseball prospect who threw a 90-plus miles per hour fastball… Had a 12-16 career record on the mound with 145 strikeouts… Batted over .300 with 36 RBIs… In a national showcase held at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, the right-handed pitcher was clocked at 94 miles per hour… Coached by Pat Collins at Longview High School… Decided to forgo the hardwood after his sophomore year and concentrate on just football and baseball… Runs a 4.7 40-yard dash… Father played at Texas Tech… Older brother Taylor was an all-conference linebacker at the University of North Texas, and sister Lindsey played basketball at San Diego State University… Texas, Miami, Texas Tech, Arizona, LSU and UCLA were among his other possible choices…

PERSONAL: Was born on July 1, 1985, in Odessa, Texas… Active member of the Goodwill Gators who volunteered his time at the Shands Medical Plaza/AGH… His parents are Leland and Debby Casey…
