MEN'S TENNIS PLAYERS WIN ITA ALL-AMERICAN QUALIFYING OPENERS
Senior Nathan Overholser and junior Olivier Levant both won their opening matches today as the two University of Florida men's tennis players competed at the annual ITA All-American Championships' qualifying round at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain, Ga. With wins on Wednesday, each player will qualify for the main draw of the event which begins on Thursday. The ITA All-American is the second leg of the collegiate grand slam.
Overholser won his match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, over Trysten Meniane of North Carolina this morning and advances to face Charles Sevigny of Mississippi State at 10:30 am on Wednesday for a berth in the main draw.
Levant cruised past Reiner Nuerohr of Baylor in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Levant will face Brian Wilson of Illinois in his second round qualifying match on Wednesday at 10 am with the winner advancing to the main draw.

Senior Nathan Overholser and junior Olivier Levant both won their second round qualifying matches today as the two University of Florida men's tennis players competed at the annual ITA All-American Championships' at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain, Ga. With their wins, each player qualifies for the main draw of the singles event which begins on Thursday. The duo will also compete in the main doubles draw. The ITA All-American is the second leg of the collegiate grand slam.
Overholser defeated Charles Sevigny on Wednesday, 6-4, 7-5 to advance. He had reached the second round of qualifying by posting a win over Trysten Meniane of North Carolina on Tuesday, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Levant needed a third set today against Brian Wilson of Illinois, but emerged victorious, 6-2, 6-7 (1), 6-3. Levant had cruised past Reiner Nuerohr of Baylor in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 in his Tuesday qualifying opener.
First round main draw opponents for Levant and Overholser in both singles and doubles will be determined later this evening.

Combining the qualifying rounds and the main draw, Overholser won his fifth straight match at the tournament today, defeating Scotty Scott of Stanford, 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 16. He will next face Marko Cenerko of Duke on Saturday morning at 10 am in the quarterfinals with a potential semifinal to follow.
Olivier Levant lost today in the singles consolation Round of 16. Levent fell by a 6-4, 7-5 score to Matias Boeker of Georgia.

In today's quarterfinals, Levant and Overholser posted a 7-6, 7-5 win over Mike Kosta and Nathan Zeder of Illinois. In the semifinals, the Gator tandem took down fifth-seeded Javier Taborga and Aaron Talarico of Notre Dame 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. The Gator duo are the first UF tandem to reach the doubles final of this event since David Blair and Mark Merklein in 1991. Levant and Overholser had only played one previous collegiate doubles match together in their careers prior to entering this tournament.
In singles action, Overholser's run to the title ended in the quarterfinals today with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 loss to Marko Cerenko of Duke.

OLIVIER LEVANT AND NATHAN OVERHOLSER WIN ITA ALL-AMERICAN DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP
Senior Nathan Overholser and junior Olivier Levant of the University of Florida men's team won the doubles championship at the annual ITA All-American Championships today at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain, Ga. The ITA All-American is the second leg of the collegiate grand slam.
The two defeated seventh-seeded and 11th ranked Huntley Montgomery and Brian Vahaly of Virginia in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5 in the doubles championship match on Sunday afternoon. The two become the first Gators to win an ITA grand slam doubles championship since David Blair and Mark Merklein won the 1993 NCAA Doubles Championship. The win also earns the team an automatic berth in the 2001 Rolex National Indoor Championships in Dallas this February, the third leg of the collegiate grand slam.
Today's win caps a 5-0 run through the main draw at the All-American for the tandem which had played only one prior collegiate match together. Levant and Overholser teamed to defeat Keith From and Ryan Newport of Texas A&M, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles in a March 5, 2000 dual match in College Station, Texas but had never otherwise played together prior to entering this tournament.
Levant and Overholser had advanced to the final by posting a three-set win over fifth-seeded Javier Taborga and Aaron Talarico of Notre Dame 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, on Saturday night. In Friday's quarterfinals, Levant and Overholser posted a 7-6, 7-5 win over Mike Kosta and Nathan Zeder of Illinois. "The whole week we didn't play spectacular but we were solid," Overholser said. "We just made the guys play and sometimes it wasn't pretty. Especially today; it was windy and we were struggling to make returns, but we just had to step it up."

The win also earns the team an automatic berth in the 2001 Rolex National Indoor Championships in Dallas this February, the third leg of the collegiate grand slam.
Today's win caps a 5-0 run through the main draw at the All-American for the tandem which had played only one prior collegiate match together. Levant and Overholser teamed to defeat Keith From and Ryan Newport of Texas A&M, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles in a March 5, 2000 dual match in College Station, Texas but had never otherwise played together prior to entering this tournament.
Levant and Overholser had advanced to the final by posting a three-set win over fifth-seeded Javier Taborga and Aaron Talarico of Notre Dame 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, on Saturday night. In Friday's quarterfinals, Levant and Overholser posted a 7-6, 7-5 win over Mike Kosta and Nathan Zeder of Illinois. The Gator team had advanced onto the doubles quarterfinals with a 6-4, 7-6 (6) win over Sebastian Graeff and Stefan Suter of Pepperdine after taking care of Baylor's Reiner Nuerohr and Mark Williams 6-3, 7-6 (4) in their first round match.
"The whole week we didn't play spectacular but we were solid," Overholser said. "We just made the guys play and sometimes it wasn't pretty. Especially today; it was windy and we were struggling to make returns, but we just had to step it up."
Additionally, Overholser posted a 5-1 singles mark during the event although his run to the title ended in the quarterfinals on Saturday with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 loss to Marko Cerenko of Duke. Friday saw him advance to the quarterfinals by defeating Scotty Scott of Stanford, 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 16. On Thursday, Overholser posted a career-best win over ninth-ranked and seventh-seeded Oskar Johansson of Arkansas, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 to advance into the Round of 16. Earlier in the day, Overholser had advanced to the second round after defeating 66th ranked Gert Vilms of BYU 6-2, 6-1 in the opening round. He also won a pair of matches to qualify for the main draw.
Levant advanced to the singles consolation draw's Round of 16 after he defeated 59th ranked Cody Hubbell of Texas A&M, 6-2, 7-5. In that match though he fell by a 6-4, 7-5 score to Matias Boeker of Georgia. His opening round match in the main draw on Thursday saw 16th ranked Andres Pedroso of Duke avenge a loss to Levant at #4 singles during the 2000 NCAA Team Quarterfinals by defeating the Gator junior 7-6 (7), 6-2. Like Overholser, Levant also won a pair of matches earlier this week to qualify for the main draw.
