Gators Take Care of Business on Day Two of Bedford Cup

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The University of Florida men's tennis team had another stellar day on the tennis courts at the Bedford Cup in Fort Myers, Fla. All five of the Gator underclassmen have advanced to their respective draws' semifinal round.

Chase Perez-Blanco rolled to a straight-set victory to advance to the semifinals of the singles A draw. The No. 84-ranked sophomore defeated Ricky Ventura of Florida Gulf Coast University, 6-2, 6-2. Fellow-sophomore Josh Wardell won by the same score against UNF's Yannick Zuern.

The Gator freshmen continued to impress at the Bedford Cup. McClain Kessler got another Gator victory against Loic Blanco of Stetson University, 7-6, 6-2. In his match against Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff of FAU, Alfredo Perez fought through three sets and extra points to advance to the semifinal round. The Coral Gables-native won the quarterfinal match, 6-4, 6-7(1-0), 6-4.

In the singles B draw, Jordan Belga cruised in his round of 16 matchup against Devon Pate of UCF, winning the match 6-3, 6-1. The quarterfinals saw Belga again use straight-sets to take down an opponent. The Gator sophomore defeated Alberto De Meo of UNF, 6-3, 6-1.

UF went 3-1 in doubles action with Perez-Blanco and Wardell advancing to the final round of the doubles draw. The sophomore duo defeated Bradley/Deautriell of UNF, 8-6 to move on to the semifinal round. Acree and Porter of UCF were defeated next by the Gators. The pairing cruised to an 8-1 victory. Kessler and Perez defeated Boudaroua and Morin Kougoucheff, 8-2, but fell in the semifinals to UNF's Goldberg and Muscheites, 8-6.

The Gators conclude the Bedford Cup tomorrow with the semifinals and finals rounds in singles. Doubles action will conclude with the final round of the East Draw.

We have now given ourselves an opportunity to win the A and B singles draws and the doubles A draw. I am very proud of our effort after the first two days of play.
