Gators Take Home Two Titles at the Bedford Cup

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The University of Florida men's tennis team is bringing home two titles from the Bedford Cup this weekend. Sophomores Josh Wardell and Chase Perez-Blanco won the doubles title and the pair had their singles final match suspended.
An all-Gator semifinal in the singles draw pitted the freshmen against the sophomores. Wardell faced off against Alfredo Perez in the first match. The sophomore defeated Perez in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-4. In the second match, McClain Kessler fell to Perez-Blanco in a three-set marathon match, 6-3, 6-3, 10-5. The finals match was suspended due to rain with Wardell leading Perez-Blanco.
In the singles B draw, Jordan Belga cruised in his semifinal match to take down FAU's Alexander Schohn, 6-3, 7-6. Belga fell in the finals to Jonathan Deautriell of UNF, 0-6, 6-1, 7-5.
The Gator pairing of Wardell and Perez-Blanco defeated Goldberg and Mascheites of UNF, 8-7 (7-4) to take the doubles title. The duo went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend in doubles action.

“For the Gators to be able to win the singles and doubles titles at the Bedford Cup makes our programs proud. Josh Wardell had an outstanding weekend and also won the sportsmanship award. He is a fantastic young man who represents himself and the program in a first class manner. Chase Perez-Blanco also had an outstanding weekend and continues to improve and mature both on and off the tennis court. Overall, a solid tournament for the Gators. We must continue to work hard, improve and focus on getting better every day.”
