How the Goals Were Scored:
Auburn was good on its only shot of the opening half. Auburn's Brooke Ramsier jumped on the free ball that popped to the far side of the box on a Florida clearance attempt. Her right-footed shot from 20 yards scored at the far post corner in the 26
th minute.
Florida sophomore
Rachelle Smith received a red card at 61:27 when she was caught AU's Kristen Dodson from behind. Bri Folds successfully converted the penalty kick.
Fifty-three seconds after the penalty kick, Florida's
Brooke Sharp scored to cut the lead in half. The ball from
Sarah Troccoli found Sharp in the middle of the box and her right-footed shot scored just inside the near post from eight yards.
Although the Gators had some good looks at the goal after the Sharp score, they couldn't get one across the line. The final goal came from AU's Kristen Dodson. She took the ball from the top of the Auburn half to the top of the Florida's final defensive third, scoring on a right-footed 30-yard shot in the 85
th minute.
Worth Noting:
- Florida's season ends in the NCAA Round of 16 for the second consecutive season and the sixth time in the program's history. This was Florida's 20th appearance in the NCAA Championship field in the program's 22-year history.
- Today's goal was Sharp's fourth of the season and the 20th of her career.
- Meggie Dougherty Howard also was credited with an assist on Sharp's goal. She finishes with a team-high 12 assists. The SEC Tournament MVP recorded five of those assists in Florida's six post-season matches (SEC and NCAA Tournament).
- It's been awhile since Florida been a player down. The last time was in a 1-0 loss to North Carolina on Sept. 17, 2006 when Shelley Lyle received her second yellow card at 87:47 of the match.
- This was the fifth time the two programs have met twice in a season and four of those double meetings have come in the last six years. The teams split in three of those meetings (2005, 2011, 2015) and this is the first time Auburn has won both (3-0 win Sept. 22 and 3-1 win Nov. 20 – both in Gainesville).
- A quarter of the 2016 NCAA Fourth Round teams are from the Southeastern Conference. Auburn and South Carolina both advanced to NCAA Quarterfinal play. No. 1 regional seed South Carolina faces North Carolina next weekend.
- The crowd of 1,152 was the largest to watch a soccer match at Dizney Stadium. The Gators have been playing a limited schedule at the venue since the 2014 season.

Tonight's Sound Bites:
On her team's win:
"Congratulations to Florida. They're an amazing team, obviously played an amazing game and they were amazing hosts here. I'm incredibly proud of our team. We did not play particularity well in the first half. We fought hard and we defended well, but we did not play soccer the way we wanted to. I was really proud of our team and the adjustments we made in the second half. We played much better soccer." Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa
On today's match:
"First, I would just like to say congratulations to Auburn. I'm excited to see the SEC represented on the national stage in the next round. I thought they were amazing defensively. We put a lot of pressure on them and they handled it really well. I definitely give credit to their team because that's not easy. It was really emotional down there on the field for us. I can't even remember this happening, but nobody wants to leave. I think that is a real testament to the relationships on this team, the closeness of this group and how much they were there for each other. This is one of my favorite years in coaching. This team really grew as the year went on, and I'm really proud of the effort we put forth tonight, not matter the circumstance. At the times the circumstances got a little crazy, at times we were playing with 10 people. Our team just laid it on the field - there were no regrets out there. I think as a coach, that's all you can ask." - Florida head coach
Becky Burleigh
On her time at Florida:
"For me, it's really hard to put into words. This place here has been my home for four years. From my teammates, to coaches, to staff members, it's a family here. There's not another group of girls that I would rather take the field with here today. It's been a ride. To look back at my freshman year, to say I would be sitting in this seat right now, I couldn't imagine it. And it flies by. It's meant the world to me, and I appreciate everything this program has done for me and for our team. I can't wait to just watch it in the future, as it continues to grow." - senior forward
Savannah Jordan
"I think all of us have grown so much as players and people. I think even more that we ever thought possible. So much of that is credited to the environment that is created here at UF. From the coaches, to our teammates, the impact that they've had on us and the rest of the seniors, we couldn't have imagined this coming in. It's going to affect our lives forever. We're never going to forget the people we've met here, and the memories we've made. We can't be more thankful for the people who have supported us throughout the way. It flies by, but this university and this program is something special." - senior midfielder
Meggie Dougherty Howard
On Auburn scoring first:
"Honestly, I really didn't have a fear that we weren't going to come back. I thought we just kept knocking on the door, and I knew we would get one. Maybe I'm just overly optimistic, but just know this group. I know how willing they would be to just lay it all out, and they did. It's a funny game sometime, but I think the most important part is we go out with no regrets. I feel very confident that's what this team felt in this game. It's also just a really rewarding experience, as a coach, to have a team that doesn't want to leave. That's a memory that I will really carry from this group." - Florida head coach
Becky Burleigh
On the team's potential moving forward:
"Their future is immensely bright. There some much talent here. If anything, I think this season has given the younger players experience. We've been in so many different situation this season, scenarios you can't replicate in training. I think they've learned a lot of lessons that they will be able to use moving forward. I'm excited to see where they go from here because there is a really good group of girls left." - senior midfielder
Meggie Dougherty Howard
"We're always going to be a part of it. There's so much talent and a lot of great leadership. I'm excited to watch them move forward because I think they have a really bright future." senior forward
Savannah Jordan
On the senior class:
"I knew this senior class was going to be special as it was coming up, but it really came to light this year. I think there's so many ways that they impacted this program, from top to bottom. Some by example, some by things they went through, things behind the scenes. I'm going to really miss this senior class, this is going to be a tough one for me. I think they leave a huge footprint on this program. Their contributions effect our entire program's history. It's been amazing." Florida head coach
