Gators, Seminoles Set for Sunshine Showdown

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of Florida men's tennis team gears up for another Sunshine Showdown with the Florida State Seminoles. UF and FSU will square off on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Ring Tennis Complex.
The Orange and Blue are coming off a tough loss to No. 3 in Columbus last Sunday. The Gators went down 2-0 in the match but came storming back with singles victories from Elliott Orkin, Chase Perez-Blanco and Alfredo Perez, but ultimately fell to the Buckeyes.
The match will be Florida's final non-conference match before SEC play begins next Friday.
Last Serve with the Seminoles
Florida defeated then-No. 35 Florida State in Tallahassee on Feb. 7, 2015. The Gators dropped the doubles points, but were able to grab four singles victories from Hidalgo, Orkin, Watson and Perez-Blanco clinched the match.
Series History Against FSU
UF leads the all-time series against FSU 56-20. The Gators have not dropped a match to Florida State since the 2007 season.
Florida vs. In-State Opponents
The Orange and Blue hold an all-time record of 271-82-2 against Sunshine State opponents. The Gators have a winning record against 14 of the 15 in-state rivals.
Making Moves in the ITA Rankings
Sophomore Chase Perez-Blanco moved up 58 spots in the Feb. 23 rankings, up from No. 88, Chase now sits at No. 30. Junior Elliott Orkin jumped 27 spots into the singles Top-25 rankings. Orkin was ranked 49 in the preseason rankings and is currently No. 22.
