Saturday, February 27, 2016 | Women's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 7 University of Florida women's tennis team is back in action on Sunday afternoon on the west coast. The Gators will complete their California road trip with the Stanford Cardinal at 3 p.m. ET.
In what is one of the best rivalries in women's college tennis, the two teams will meet for the eighth time in six years. Stanford has taken five of those eight meetings. UF will be coming off its first defeat of the season at the hands of the No. 1-ranked California Golden Bears on Friday. The Gators fell 4-3 on Friday afternoon in Berkeley.
The Orange and Blue will look to bounce back from their first loss against the perennial powerhouse in Stanford. The two teams have a combined 25 national championships, including four of the last six going to one of the teams.
The showdown with Stanford is Florida's final nonconference match of the regular season. The Gators open up SEC play against Arkansas on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET at the Ring Tennis Complex. UF has a program record of 199-1 at the Ring against SEC opponents.
Last Time with Stanford
The then No. 10 Stanford came to Gainesville in 2015 looking to end the Gators' home-winning streak at 137. However, UF had another plan. The match on Feb. 22, 2015 would come down to the final match and a third set with senior Brianna Morgan clinching the 4-3 victory.
Series History with Stanford
Stanford leads the all-time series, 19-14
UF vs. Pac-12 Opponents
The Orange and Blue are 72-39 against Pac-12 opponents. UF has already defeated one highly-ranked Pac-12 opponent this season by defeating then-No. 4 USC, 7-0 on Feb. 7, but fell to No. 1 California on Friday afternoon.
