Gators, Commodores to Square Off in SEC Tournament Quarterfinals

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 11 University of Florida men's tennis team opens the 2016 SEC Men's Tennis Tournament with the No. 34 Vanderbilt Commodores on Friday morning at the Carolina Tennis Center. The Gators are the No. 2 seed in the tournament after completing the regular season with a 10-2 record in SEC play. First serve is set for 9 a.m. ET in Columbia.
Florida completed the SEC regular season on a three-match winning streak, where the Gators only dropped two singles matches in that three match span. The Gators achieved the 10 win mark in SEC play for the first time since the 2004-2005 season where UF advanced to the NCAA team semifinals.
The Commodores defeated the No.33 LSU Tigers, 4-2 on Thursday morning to advance to a rematch with the Gators.

Florida defeated Vanderbilt, 5-2 on April 1st in Gainesville. The Gators grabbed the doubles point and then Alfredo
Perez and Chase Perez-Blanco won their respective singles matches, while senior Gordon Watson clinched the match for the Orange and Blue.

Gators lead the all-time series with the 'Dores, 40-9-1.

Senior Diego Hidalgo and freshman Alfredo Perez swept the SEC Weekly Awards on Monday. Hidalgo earned his second SEC Player of the Week nod and Perez received his third SEC Freshman of the Week award. The team has combined for six SEC weekly awards this season with junior Elliott Orkin also won the award in late March.
Dealing in Doubles
Senior Hidalgo and Watson remain at the top of the ITA doubles rankings after another win over a ranked opponent. The duo's streak is now at five matches they have won over ranked opponents.
10 Wins in the SEC Regular Season
For the first time since the 2004-2005 season, the Gators secured 10 SEC match wins to finish regular season play with a 10-2 record.
