
Gators, Aggies Set for Rematch of Regular Season Thriller

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 3 University of Florida men's tennis team will continue its tournament run with the No. 13 Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday morning at the Carolina Tennis Center at the 2016 SEC Tournament. The Gators swept the Vanderbilt Commodores, 4-0 on Friday morning to reach the semifinal round.
The Gators and Aggies had a thrilling regular season contest when Texas A&M edged Florida, 4-3. After grabbing the doubles point with wins on one and three, the Gators were able to get singles victories from Alfredo Perez and Gordon Watson. At 3-all, the match came down to a tiebreaker that went in favor of Texas A&M, 7-2. The Gators then went on a seven match winning streak in the SEC and finished 10-2.
Florida is now 33-19 all-time at the SEC Tournament and will compete tomorrow at noon ET.
Series History with the Aggies
The Aggies lead the all-time series, 7-3.
Dealing in Doubles
Seniors Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson are again at the top of the ITA Doubles Rankings after two wins over No. 2 and No. 4-ranked pairings on April 6 and April 8.
10-Win Season
With their win over Tennessee on April 17, the Gators achieved their first 10-win conference season since the 2004-2005 season.
Florida Sweeps SEC Weekly Awards
Hidalgo and Perez continue to grab SEC weekly awards. The pair swept the SEC Player of the Week and SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday.
