Gators Set for Match Up With the SMU Mustangs on Friday

TULSA, Okla. – The No. 9-ranked University of Florida men's tennis team faces the SMU Mustangs on Friday afternoon in the NCAA Round of 16. First serve at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center is set for 1 p.m. ET
The Gators used two 4-0 decisions in the NCAA First and Second Rounds in Gainesville to advance to the NCAA Round of 16. Florida defeated two in-state opponents, North Florida and South Florida, each by way of a doubles point and wins on courts two, five and six. Freshmen McClain Kessler and Alfredo Perez each clinched a match win for the Orange and Blue, while the No. 1-ranked tandem of Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson picked up two wins over Top-40 opponents.
UF is currently on an eight-match winning streak and have not lost since a 5-2 decision in Athens, Ga. on April 8 to the Georgia Bulldogs. The Gators went on to finish SEC regular season play 10-2 and added the program's fifth SEC Tournament title.
This season is the first time since 2014 that the Gators have advanced to the NCAA Round of 16. UF defeated SMU in the Round of 16 in 1999, where they were on the winning end of a 4-2 decision.

The Gators defeated the Mustangs 7-1 on Feb. 24, 2000. In May of 1999, UF defeated SMU in the NCAA Round of 16, 4-2 to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
