All three Gator Greats will take their talents to Rio as potential 4x400 relay members.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Gator Greats Arman Hall, Tony McQuay and Novlene Williams-Mills are headed to Rio, pushing Florida's track and field contingent of Olympians to 13 athletes slated to compete in Brazil come August.
Hall and McQuay are two of six men's athletes in Team USA's 4x400-meter relay pool, announced Monday by USA Track and Field. Hall and McQuay join LaShawn Merritt, Gil Roberts, David Verburg and Kyle Clemons in the relay pool.
Hall (45.09) and McQuay (45.30) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in finals of the 400m at the United States Olympic Trials last week at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., to make a case for relay-pool honors.
Williams-Mills will make her fourth Olympic Games appearance this year. A breast cancer survivor after being diagnosed just before the 2012 London Olympics, Williams-Mills won her 400m prelims heat (52.51) at the Jamaica National Senior Championships last week, finished second in the semifinal (50.89) and notched fourth overall in the final (50.64) to punch her ticket to Rio in Jamaica's women's 4x4 relay pool.
Track and field action in Rio is slated to start August 12.
