Gators Distance Corps Opens Season at Commodore Invitational

Florida's contingent is headlined by a pair of SEC scorers and an Olympic semifinalist
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Seventeen University of Florida middle-distance and distance runners will open their 2017 campaigns Friday (Jan. 13) and Saturday (Jan. 14) at the Commodore Invitational, hosted by Vanderbilt University.
This weekend's travel squad is headlined by 2016 Olympics semifinalist Andres Arroyo, 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifier Taylor Tubbs, SEC Indoor Championships scorer Elisabeth Bergh, and sophomore Jack Guyton, who missed qualifying for the IAAF World Junior Championships team in the 1,500 meters by less than two seconds this past summer.
Arroyo is the only one of the four who will not open in his premier event, as he is set to run the mile rather than the 800 meters. The five-time All-American typically ran at least one mile race early in his previous three seasons.
Bergh and Tubbs both scored in the mile at SEC Indoors a year ago, taking eighth and fourth place, respectively. The pair are also on the program's all-time top 10 list in the event, with Tubbs' personal record (4:41.43) ranking sixth and Bergh's PR (4:42.26) checking in at No. 10.
Guyton did not compete in any indoor meets last season, but is coming off a strong fifth-place showing at the USATF Outdoor Junior Championships last July.
