Gators Defeat Vols to Close Out Road Trip

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 14 Florida Gators men's tennis team defeat the Tennessee Volunteers on Sunday afternoon, coming back from a two-match losing streak to beat the Vols 6-1.
In doubles play, the No. 4 team of Alfredo Perez and Johannes Ingildsen earned the first win for the Gators, defeating No. 67 Valero/Stodder 6-3 in the first position. The Vols retaliated, picking up a win on court 3 as Bhat/Jakovljevic defeated Joshua Wardell and Chase Perez-Blanco 6-4.
The doubles point came down to court 2, where Maxx Lipman and Elliott Orkin fought a highly contested battle with UT's Shipanski/Jones. The match stayed close and eventually went into a tiebreak, where the Gators' duo won to clinch the point for Florida.
In singles play, No. 73 Orkin earned a quick 6-1, 6-2 win over Luis Valero to set the momentum for the Gators. No. 124 McClain Kessler finished close behind, defeating Jack Schipanski with the same score of 6-1, 6-2 to earn his first conference win of the season. Kessler has been out since late February with an injury.
Ingildsen started off his match strong, winning the first set 6-1, but UT's Scott Jones fought a tough second match. The two went into a tiebreak, with a win from Ingildsen clinching the match for the Gators.
The Vols earned a team point with a win in the third singles position, as Perez-Blanco fell to Srdjan Jakovljevic in a tough 7-6, 6-3 match. Lipman followed right behind to swing the momentum back in the Gators' favor, coming back from a near-loss to defeat Luca Wiedenmann 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
No. 11 Perez finished off the match with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 defeat of No. 40 Timo Stodder, a close match that finished with Perez winning five consecutive games in the third set to earn the sixth team point for the Gators.

"We rebounded well today. Our guys showed some resiliency. There are areas where we can continue to improve, and we'll certainly work on those things this week. I believe we have a better understanding of what our identity must be. It's a privilege for us to be Gators!"

Florida will wrap up its final weekend of the regular season at home, returning to the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex after two weeks on the road. The team will host the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday, March 14th and the Aurburn Tigers on Sunday, March 16th. The Gators will celebrate senior day for Maxx Lipman and Elliott Orkin on Sunday.
