Gators at Iowa State Sunday
Friday, September 15, 2017 | Soccer
This is Florida's second visit to state of Iowa and first trip to Big 12 Conference member Iowa State.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida soccer makes its second visit in the program's 23-year history to the state of Iowa (and first since 2007) to face Iowa State. Sunday's match time is set for 1 p.m. ET at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
The Gators met Drake in Des Moines on Sept. 16, 2007 (2-0 UF win) in UF's only other Iowa appearance.
The Florida at Iowa State was to be the Gators' final non-conference match of 2017. Last weekend's approach of Hurricane Irma caused the Florida vs. Florida State match to move to Thursday, Oct. 12. The Sept. 10 match with South Florida is cancelled.

Last UF-ISU Meeting
When the two teams opened the 2016 season in Gainesville, Florida took a 5-2 win. Five different Gators scored in that match - Mayra Pelayo and Melanie Monteagudo provided the first half scores. In the second half, the Gators pushed the lead to 4-0 when Sarah Troccoli and then senior Meggie Dougherty Howard scored within a two-minute span early in the second half.
The Cyclones narrowed the lead to two, scoring twice within a 10-minute span. Then senior Savannah Jordan scored the final goal of the match in the 68th minute. It was the 66th goal of her career, moving her into a tie for third with Gator Great Danielle Fotopoulos on Florida's career goal chart. Jordan finished her UF career with 81 goals, placing her second on the Gators and SEC scoring lists behind Gator Great Abby Wambach (96).
In Thursday's SEC Opener:
The earliest Gator goal of the season was all Florida needed to open Southeastern Conference play Thursday with a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten No. 24 Mississippi. Gabby Seiler found Melanie Monteagudo on a throw-in. Monteagudo took a couple of touches to create space before crossing the ball into the middle of the box. It bounced between Rebel defenders and Mayra Pelayo's left-footed swipe from nine-yards scored at the far post. The goal ended Mississippi's shutout streak record at 569 minutes. It was the third time in the last five meetings that both programs brought a top-25 ranking. Thursday's match was the first appearance for Gator goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese, who was sidelined for the first six matches with a hand injury. She turned in her 15th career solo shutout Thursday versus the nation's leading goal scoring team.
