Holmes Grabs Silver at USATF Outdoor Championships
Saturday, June 23, 2018 | Track and Field
TJ Holmes improved from his third-place finish at this same meet a year ago, running the second-fastest time of his career.
Holmes, the fifth-place finisher at last year's IAAF World Championships, ran the second-fastest time of his career to take silver in the 400-meter hurdles final. Holmes was the bronze medalist at the 2017 USATF Outdoor Championships. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native and Nike athlete led the race through eight hurdles, but a late charge from Kenny Selmon proved too much for Holmes to hold off.
In the day's only other final featuring a Gator, Darrielle McQueen donned the Florida uniform for one last go-round, finishing seventh in the women's long jump.
Four-time NCAA champion and The Bowerman finalist Grant Holloway easily won his 110-meter hurdles preliminary heat, even running into a headwind and looking to his right before crossing the line. The sophomore, who announced Thursday he will return to Florida next season, clocked the fifth-fastest prelim time. Eight men will advance from Sundays semifinals to the final, which will air live on NBC.

Four-time NCAA champion and outdoor collegiate record holder Kyra Jefferson took second in her 200 meters preliminary heat to automatically advance to Sunday's semifinals. Eight women will advance from the semis and compete in the televised final later Sunday evening as well.
At the Jamaican Senior Championships, sophomore Clayton Brown won the high jump title, and two-time SEC champion Lloydricia Cameron, who exhausted her collegiate eligibility earlier this month, won the shot put title.
