Gators Travel to Tallahassee for ITA Regionals

Women's tennis sends four to compete in Southeast Regional hosted by Seminoles.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida women's tennis players Sydney Berlin, Tsveta Dimitrova, McCartney Kessler and Marlee Zein continue their fall campaigns this weekend, Oct. 18-21, when they head to Tallahassee for the ITA Southeast Regional Championships hosted by Florida State.

The Gator quartet is slated to compete in the main draw for both singles and doubles.

Main draw play opens Friday as the UF contingent starts off on the doubles courts at 9 a.m. ET. Competition in the 64-player singles bracket will follow.

Student-athletes from 17 schools across the Southeast are in search of the automatic bid to the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships that is awarded to both the singles and doubles champions.

The field includes players from Georgia, Florida State, USF, Georgia Tech, Miami, FIU, FAU, Georgia Southern, UNF, FGCU, Stetson, Kennesaw State, UCF, Mercer, Georgia State and FAMU.

No. 23 Kessler has played in a team-high 15 matches this fall, registering a 10-5 record, but for No. 85 Zein, Dimitrova and Berlin the regional showdown marks just their second tournament of the season. Berlin is off to a 3-1 start while Zein and Dimitrova are both 2-2 through their first four.

Dimitrova and Berlin will team up for the second time this fall while Zein and Kessler will make their debut together.

Kessler, ranked No. 6 in the region, won the doubles title at the 2018 ITA Southeast Regional Championship in Atlanta. In fact, a season ago the regional finale featured an all-Gator doubles and singles championship as Kessler and teammate Victoria Emma were crowned the doubles champs and Ida Jarlskog claimed the singles title.
